By A Trieu. Mathis holds offers from Cincinnati and Miami, and says that he is 90-95% sure he will commit to the Hurricanes on Sept. 1st. Miami has told him that he will play as a freshman, and that they want him to give an early verbal. He is also interested in Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Florida.

The team the Badgers faced on Saturday, the Michigan Wolverines hosted a number of recruits for the game. The list included five star defensive tackle William Campbell (Detroit Cass Tech) and several top juniors, including Campbell's teammate Dior Mathis. Mathis, who has had Miami-FL in the lead for quite some time, enjoyed the game enough to say that the maize and blue are very much in his mind.

"I'm feeling some pressure now. After this game, I said, man, this is going to be hard. I want to wait for some new schools though, USC has been contacting me. They're sending me letters."

Defensive back Dior Mathis is one of the top class of 2010 prospects in the state of Michigan. The 5-foot-9 and 170-pound Mathis, who has run the 100-meter dash in 10.47 seconds, reports scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Miami, Oregon and Tennessee. Mathis attended a couple games at Michigan and one at Michigan State.

"He's one of the top five to six juniors in the state and I think he could move a tad higher with a good senior season," said Scout.com Midwest analyst Allen Trieu. "His main asset is his sprinter's speed, but he also has very good footwork and the type of fluid hips which are vital for a top cornerback. Despite his lack of great size, he still comes up and puts his hands on receivers. I also love his feisty, competitive attitude. The one area of improvement I see with him is run support."

Cass Tech’s will continue to produce high-level, Division I talent in 2010 with the 5-9, 171-pound Mathis. Like ex-teammate and current U-M cornerback Boubacar Cissoko, Mathis doesn't have great size, but exceptional speed and elite coverage skills. He showed his talents at the U.S. Army combine in San Antonio last month, checking the nation’s top wide receivers and coming away with first team all-combine honors. Mathis grew up following the Miami Hurricanes and they have offered, but so has Iowa, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and others.

Mathis, a cornerback and wide receiver, is one of the top five prospects in the state of Michigan. The 5-foot-9 and 170-pound Mathis has scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Tennessee, Oregon, Illinois, Miami and Minnesota.

5. CB Dior Mathis, Detroit Cass Tech (5-8, 170, 4.3): Prior to last season, Mathis was considered by many to be a track guy playing football. An offseason of strength work, plus seeking out one-on-one challenges at every summer camp he could get to, was the start of proving otherwise. Mathis added 22 pounds of muscle, but maintained his 10.47 100-meter speed.
The more physically prepared Mathis was an impact player for Cass Tech in 2008. He grabbed eight interceptions and flashed big-play ability on offense en route to helping the Technicians get back to the playoffs. On the recruiting front he was seemingly signed, sealed and delivered for Miami last September, but eventually decided against offering an early verbal pledge. Mathis wants to go through the entire recruiting process and has no shortage of suitors to explore. He holds offers from Michigan, Miami, Iowa, Oregon and Tennessee, but maintains a top four of Florida, Miami, Michigan and Ohio State.
Trieu: "Dior's cover skills are fantastic. His feet, hips and makeup speed are uncanny. He likes to play in your face, even despite his size. I've noticed him getting bigger and stronger, which should help the part of his game that needs the most improvement -- run support. Ultimately, true cover corners are hard to find and Dior has those skills."
