good for him. He must have seen the writting on the wall. 2 years behind Bennett and always being #2 behind Josh Nesbitt. Not that I think he couldn't beat out Nesbitt but who will GT fan embrace first? A home town hero in Josh Nesbitt or a "yankee" from Michigan in Steven Threet?
I say this as a Georgia boy whol lives 30 minutes from Athens (UGA) and Atlanta (GT).

I don't think it was competition he was afraid of, I think he was just homesick. If he was afraid of competition he wouldn't have come to Michigan, because Ryan Mallett was in his class. As far as Georgia Tech's QB situation goes, Threet is 6'6", 225 pounds with a live arm and was the most highly touted QB prospect they had landed in years. Nesbitt on the other hand is barely 6'0" and his arm strength is questionable. Threet probably would've beaten him out no problems.

To be honest Nesbitt is 6'1" and his throwing motion is unusual but he does have a live arm and an incredible first step and the wiggle you need to run any type of "option" or QB sneaks. Besides promises were made to Nesbitt and GT doesn't want to lose the Greensboro area back to UGA. GT, with Nix gone, will try to go back to a run first offense that executes the passing game with intermidiate QB designed runs (like VT with Marcus Vick in 2005).

Threet!
This kid looks outstanding on film. Tall, strong armed, and stands in the pocket well. QB is the most important position on the field and the hardest to find elite level talent. IMO you can never have too much depth at QB, not to mention competiiotn is always a good thing.

July 13, 2007
Michigan is adding another big-time quarterback.
Steven Threet, a Division 2 all-state player last year at Adrian High School, is expected to sign with the Wolverines on Monday. He signed in February with Georgia Tech and enrolled early, spending the winter semester there. But when he decided to transfer last week and was given his release, he sought Michigan.

FWIW- the AJC says Threet left Ga Tech because the O Coordinator (Patrick Nix) went to Miami and the Director of Football Operations went to Alabama. Regardless, glad he's Blue.

Steven Threet, Michigan, QB
With Chad Henne completing his eligibility and Ryan Mallett transferring to Arkansas, the 6-foot-5, 228-pound Threet could be a key player. The former four-star prospect will likely play a starting role for the Wolverines - unless Terrelle Pryor signs with the Wolverines and wins the job.
