Sam Webb: Recruiting
U-M commitment Campbell shows vicious side in camps
The unspoken rule about hiding signs of pain -- or worse, fear -- is well known in the game of football. So when either of those traits is visibly evident on a player's face, it had better be for a good reason. On a number of occasions over the past few months, Detroit Cass Tech lineman William Campbell has been one of those reasons.

Any attempts to explain why Campbell is not in their Top 150 are pointless...

William Campbell (Detroit/ Cass Tech) was the subject of much debate. We recognize he has plenty of talent, but he fell short of a 150 grade at this time. We also feel he is not a defensive lineman at the college level -- he will be a better fit on offense. He reminds us of former Cass Tech prospect Joseph Barksdale, a defensive tackle prospect who will be playing offensive tackle this year for LSU. Campbell may enter college as a defensive tackle, but we think, much like Barksdale, he will end up on offense. Campbell is a big, but raw prospect who needs to keep developing his game. It is easy to become enamored with his measurables, which garnered attention among recruiting fans, but he is a kid we will keep an eye this season.

Thor - William Campbell: Cass Tech star, U-M commit drops a hammer on foes | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press
Quote:
William Campbell defensive tackle, from Cass Tech High School stars as Thor a noble and very self-assured God, sometimes to the point of arrogance. Thor's father Odin decides his son needs to be taught humility and consequently places Thor (without memories of godhood) into the body and memories of an existing, partially disabled human medical student, Donald Blake. After becoming a doctor and thoroughly believing himself to be the young surgeon Blake, later discovers Thor's disguised hammer and learns to change back and forth into the Thunder God.

Cass Tech's Thor has been a big deal for quite awhile now.
Former University of Michigan coach Lloyd Carr offered William Campbell a scholarship on the spot at a camp two summers ago after seeing him dominate drills.
Then he went on to have a stellar junior season.
Then he really opened eyes at the U.S. Army All-American Combine in January, an invitation-only event for the best of the best. Campbell is ranked No. 17 in the nation among rivals.com's top 250 players. The defensive tackle is the only player in Michigan with a five-star rating on the recruiting Web site.

Michigan will fight to regain Cass Tech's five-star recruit William Campbell
Quote:
By JOSH HELMHOLDT • FREE PRESS SPECIAL WRITER • September 9, 2008
One day after announcing he was abandoning his 14-month commitment to Michigan, Detroit Cass Tech defensive tackle William Campbell attended the Wolverine’s home game against Miami (Ohio) and met with members of the coaching staff.
The 6-5, 315-pound Campbell was Michigan’s highest ranked recruit in their 2009 class - checking in at No. 17 on the Rivals.com top 100 list of prospects - before his de-commitment on Friday. He also had the longest standing commitment in the class, having issued his verbal pledge in June of 2007 after receiving an offer from then-head coach Lloyd Carr at Michigan’s summer football camp.

I tried posting my thoughts next to the link above but for some reason it wasn't working. I think he ends up at UM but I'm wary of LSU
