Top football recruits in Michigan for 2010 | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Quote:
1. QB Devin Gardner, Inkster (6-4, 196, 4.6): Gardner has emerged as one of the mostly heavily-recruited signal callers in the country. The genesis of his climb up the charts coincided with his transfer to Inkster last year.
Spring and summer work with his new coaches and teammates laid the groundwork for strong camp performances at schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and a host of others. Those showings preceded a trip to the prestigious Elite 11 camp in Eugene, Ore.

When fall finally rolled around, Gardner was primed to have a breakout season. He did just that, amassing 1,886 yards, 26 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in the air while also totaling 1,401 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground. His efforts paced Inkster's run to the state title game.
His offer sheet stands at 13 and includes Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and LSU. Noticeably missing, however, is childhood favorite Ohio State. The Buckeyes were eliminated from contention earlier this week after they made Gardner aware of their intent to focus all of their early recruiting attention on Nick Montana, son of former NFL great Joe Montana.
Trieu: "Devin showed as a junior that he could hang in the pocket and win with the pass. Of course, he is still at his best when plays break down and he ad-libs. But he is adding polish to his game with each passing day and that bodes well for his college future."

Gardner received an offer from WVA, putting him at 14.

Gardner enjoyed the Spartans' junior day on Sunday.
"It was pretty cool," he said. "I went to the Michigan State-Wisconsin basketball game. They honored their national championship basketball team. I met Magic Johnson. It was nice. And I talked to the Michigan State (football) coaches."

"I didn't think it was a big deal, the de-commitment," former Gopher verbal David Gilreath said. "I think this was the best decision of my life."
"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

It's dominoes falling. It came out a few weeks back that Montana is probably going to OSU. Ergo, Gardner to UM, Bolden to MSU, and those scumsucking rat bastards get Boisture.

Inkster QB Devin Gardner picks Michigan | detnews.com | The Detroit News
Quote:
Michigan received a verbal commitment from Inkster junior quarterback Devin Gardner late Wednesday. Gardner is 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds. He was named to The Detroit News all-state first team after leading Inkster to the Division 3 final.
"I was surprised," Inkster coach Greg Carter said. "I thought it would be a last-minute thing. He told me he wanted his mom (Marlene McClellan) to be a part of his football experience. He knows what a Michigan education can do for him in this area when he's done playing. That's the type of conversation I had with Cam (Cameron Gordon)."

2 for 2 in the state of Michigan, 3 if you count Ricardo Miller and his impending move.

Devin Gardner - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN
ESPN eval...
Quote:
|
Gardner is a prospect that after viewing for some time you respect his overall production level once you get past the fact that his methods more often than not are going to be very unorthodox and at times not pretty. He is a fantastic prospect athletically and looks great on the hoof. Is the ideal fit for the spread offense and a short controlled passing game that plays off his threat as a runner. He is a gifted player with his legs and can improvise and create positive plays when things break down. Initial quickness and ability to take off out of the pocket is excellent. He can cut, shows burst changing directions and could develop into a dangerous read-option operator. Gardner shows very good arm strength and when his feet are set he can drive the ball down field and shows very good RPM's on short and intermediate routes. He can fit the ball into tight spots and gets rid of the ball quickly for the most part. Has shown flashes of a very quick delivery when forced to dump the ball off in the face of the rush. However, for all his athleticism and arm strength, Gardner's mechanics need a lot of work. Fortunately he is blessed with height because he has a very low release point and is a side-arm passer that cradles the ball and tends to push it in his delivery. He must improve his overall footwork and set up as he rarely sets his feet and throws off his back foot way too much. This takes away from his arm strength and negatively affects his accuracy. When sound with his footwork, he can be a very steady passer, but when he seems unsettled or gets happy feet he becomes erratic. Overall, you have to be impressed with Gardner's measurables and athleticism. He can make plays and possesses a lot of raw tools. Like Vince Young there is probably only so much you can do with his throwing mechanics, but lots that can be done with his feet to help him become more conistent. He is green, but talented. Could also play another position.
