Michigan hosted their first "Barbeque at the Big House" in Ann Arbor today and one of the headliners at the event was Minneapolis (Minn.,) Breck wide receiver [db]Bryce McNeal[/db]. After seeing the sights for the second time, this time with his mother along, McNeal had good news for the Michigan coaching staff.
"I committed," said McNeal moments ago to TheWolverine.com.
McNeal becomes the eighth pledge for Michigan in the class of 2008 and the fourth in the Rivals.com top 100.
Stay tuned for more on McNeal's commitment to Michigan later today.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Top Gun: Sunday morning QB/WR evaluations
Quote:
Bryce McNeal, 6-2, 185, WR Minneapolis (MN) Breck
Assets: Runs precise routes and has excellent hands.
What was most impressive at camp: He really comes out of his breaks with explosion and has great body control. McNeal is also a very intelligent player.
Areas for improvement: Needs to add some muscle mass in order to hold up physically at the next level.
On the Hoof: A very lean receiver with long arms and big hands.

Bryce McNeal told Rivals.com that he might be taking all five of his official visits, but he was seen almost the entire weekend wearing something with a Michigan logo on it.

Now says he will not make any officials except to UM after the season. Plans to make a couple of UM home games as well.

ESPN - 2009 receivers have size and speed to burn - Football Recruiting
Quote:
|
Normally Bryce McNeal (Minneapolis/Breck School) would be in the size/speed category for this piece, but he is so rail thin it negates his height. So he's in the speed category because he really does run extremely well, has a second gear and is very smooth. We are concerned about the level of competition he faces each week, but the Michigan commit will fit in very nicely in the spread and is faster than J.R. Hemingway and Darryl Stonum, two highly-regarded Michigan signees of the last two classes.

ESPN - Midwest Recruiting Blog
Quote:
There have been rumors that one of Michigan's top commitments, wide receiver Bryce McNeal (Minneapolis/Breck), has decided to de-commit. McNeal says that is not the case, but it is also not a done deal he will sign with the Wolverines.
"I haven't de-committed," McNeal said late Monday night. "But I'm going to take my five official visits. I visit Colorado Oct. 18 and Michigan Oct. 25. Minnesota, Cal-Berkley and Florida are the other schools [under consideration]."

I am worried that we will lose this one. I think Beaver stays but McNeal, I don't know. Minnesota is coming on strong. These kids anymore don't really seem to be commited when they commit.

A verbal commit these days means that whoever you're committed to is your leader...not much else.
