7/14 By D Berk. Michigan State offered Derek, and he accepted on the spot. He notes the friendship his high school coach has with some of the coaches at MSU as a major factor. Maryland was his first choice, but after thinking it over he thought it was just too far and wanted to stay in the Big Ten.
