Quote:
SCOUTING MILLER: There are athletes you watch and spend time checking out the things they do well – and of course, not so well. This is one of those football players who just know how great he is the first time he carries the ball.

His speed, strength and ability to run tackle-to-tackle or bounce the play outside has already elevated him to a status that few backs in the area achieve. From the time he first carried the football, there was little doubt that he will be one of the best around.

Miller is a quality football player who learned how to block and catch the ball out of the backfield during his sophomore year. Chances are, by the time he graduates, he could be one of the top 10 backs of all time in Miami-Dade County.

Every opponent who has competed against this stellar football talent have said that he is as good as you get at this level, and when you are talking about some of the greats who have played in the region, this is one of those players who has two full years to make a major statement.

MILLER MANIA: Nearly 40 years ago, Miami Killian had a running back that had speed, power and was considered one of the best in the country. The name Rufus "The Roadrunner" Ferguson is someone that the longtime fans compare Miller to. Ferguson went on to play at the University of Wisconsin.

A track standout, Miller combines that rare speed, size and strength that the great backs have.

WHAT THE COLLEGES RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: "I have watched some great backs come out of Miami over the past decade, but I have rarely watched one with the talent and overall athletic ability this standout has at such a young age."

HIS BAGS ARE PACKED: While he hasn't really followed a lot of college football programs over the years, the University of Miami has to be the leader – very early on for this nationally-rated recruit.

Killian's Miller to be coveted on '09 signing day - 02/09/2008 - MiamiHerald.com

Quote:
''I don't have a favorite school or anything like that,'' said Miller, whose coach Steve Smith said Thursday that Miller has received more than two dozen oral offers from college programs.

``I mean, I'm a Hurricanes fan because I live in Miami. My grandfather drives a bus at UM. But my mom, she grew up in Gainesville, and she wants me to be a Gator.

``I'd like to go to a school that runs the ball, though. I'm an I-formation guy. Miami, Rutgers, UCF, they run the ball. I like schools like that.''

Miller, who debuted at No. 2 (one spot behind Miramar quarterback Eugene Smith) in The Miami Herald's prespring 2009 recruiting rankings for Miami-Dade and Broward counties on Thursday, will be sure to find plenty of schools in the coming months willing to put a scholarship in his hands.

He has welcomed a laundry list of visitors at Killian. According to Smith, during the final two weeks in January (when college coaches are allowed to make visits to high schools), Miller received visits from Miami's Randy Shannon, Florida's Urban Meyer, Southern Cal's Pete Carroll, Alabama's Nick Saban, Florida State's Bobby Bowden and the coaches and staffs from 10 other schools. Those coaches will now have to wait until May -- when Miller plays in his spring game -- to talk to him again. Then it is another noncontact period until the season begins in September.

With over 30 scholarship offer Miller certainly has plenty of schools to choose from and mentions offers from Florida, Miami, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, Central Florida, South Florida, Georgia Tech and Rutgers, among others.

"I don't have a timetable yet," he admitted. "I'm looking to make sure I fit into the offense and the formations they run. Also the depth chart is going to be important because I want to play early."

While Miller says he's still fairly open, he admits favoring Miami slightly over Texas, Rutgers and Florida.

"I grew up on Miami," Miller said. "They have a lot of tradition and have some great players that went there, especially at running back. They just always seem to send guys to the NFL."

The 'Canes are about 10 minutes from Miller's house and that might work in Coach Randy Shannon's favor. "It's not a big factor, but I'd prefer to stay close," he said. "I went to their spring game and it's a nice atmosphere. There was a large crowd there and I liked getting a chance to meet a lot of the players. They seem like good guys.

"Coach Shannon is a great coach and a good man," Miller said. "I've talked to him a few times and he seems to have a good plan to get them back on top. He said they like my style and that I'd be able to really help them out on offense."

Miami is recruiting Miller the hardest, but it was their in-state rival, Florida, that was Miller's first offer last September.

"I went to Florida's Junior Day and it was real good," he said. "That's a great program. They have a real nice school and I liked everything there. The are good every year and it's a great atmosphere for football. The fans are great."

Although Miller isn't 100 percent sure about which camps he'll be attending this summer, he does think he'll make the Florida Gator camp. He also hopes to visit both Rutgers and Texas and learn more about those two programs.

"I like Rutgers because they like to run the ball," he admitted. "The people there are really into the team and they are still on the rise, so I could probably play early there.

"Texas has really good running tradition and I like the formation they run," he said. "They run the ball a lot and I think I could play early there too."

Miller is also being recruited for track. "I run the 100m (10.60) and the 4x1 relay," he said. "I have about three smaller offers, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna do track in college."

Miller needs to remain focused on qualifying academically. He reports a 2.3 core GPA and is taking the SAT on June 7 for the first time.

ESPN 150 Watch List talent Lamar Miller is currently holding more than 20 scholarship offers but two programs are showing more interest than the others.

"Miami and West Virginia are recruiting me the hardest," he told affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com.

Miller rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns last fall and hopes to double those totals during his senior campaign.

ESPN 150 Watch Lister Lamar Miller told affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com, "I've narrowed my list down to Florida State, West Virginia, South Florida, Central Florida, Tennessee and Florida."

Additionally, Miller said he was unable to contact the hometown Hurricanes coaching staff after they received running back commitment No. 2 from Mike James (Davenport, Fla./Ridge Community).

"I was trying to call the coaches, but they didn't pick up. I called the coaches to see if I still have an offer, but it went straight to the answering machine. When I talked to them earlier, they said they were only taking two running backs."

His list includes Florida, FSU, Miami, WVU, LSU, Rutgers, and UCF. Visiting Florida for the Miami game on the 6th. RU may get an official visit, but Miami won't. WVU is recruiting him the hardest. Doesn't plan on deciding until after the season.

Lamar Miller (Miami/Killian) may have been the most hyped Florida running back heading into this recruiting season. While we never even had the Miami Killian prospect rated as a top-three Florida back, we feel his stock should not be sinking like it appears to be. His good blend of inside and outside speed coupled with his great room for continued physical development make him a coveted prospect in our eyes.

ESPN - College Football Recruiting On the Trail 2009

Quote:
ESPNU 150 RB Lamar Miller staying home with the Canes
Miami-Florida has snared a commitment from Lamar Miller, ranked No. 117 overall and No. 12 running back in the Class of 2009.
Miller chose the Canes over LSU, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, Central Florida and West Virginia.

ESPN's Billy Tucker said of the news, "Like the recent stock market, Miller has seen his stock plunge since being labeled by many as the top back in Florida last spring. We have stayed consistent with his No. 12 overall national ranking and think he still has the physical tools to develop into a well-rounded, productive college running back."

"This was an interesting pickup and bit surprising as the Canes already have two quality backs in Bryce Brown (Wichita, Kans./East) and Mike James (Davenport, Fla./Ridge) on board for 2009. Brown does appear interested in taking visits so this may be an insurance policy if he does decide to decommit, but that is highly doubtful in our eyes. Either way, Miami now has commitments from three backs, two on the ESPNU 150, with similar stature and running styles."

"Like Brown and James, Miller has a great blend of size and speed at the running back position. He has the body composition and decisive in-line running style needed to develop into a high-carry college back while also giving you a perimeter threat with his good burst of speed and acceleration. Miller needs to build more strength and lower-body power for improved yards after contact, but we feel this kid is physically very impressive as a back. This was a good in-state pickup for Miami, its 8th homegrown prospect for 2009."

The 205-pound prospect rushed for 1,126 yards and 12 touchdowns during his junior season.
