CrimsonConfidential.com - Mississippi two-way lineman commits
Quote:
Alabama picked up its second public commitment of the day and fifth in eight days late Tuesday, as Mississippi offensive tackle/defensive tackle Anthony Steen announced he would sign with the Crimson Tide in February.
The 6-foot-4, 297-pound Steen, out of Lee Academy in Clarksdale, Miss., is Alabama's 13th commitment for 2009. Defensive end Anthony Orr of Sparkman High School in Harvest, Ala., committed earlier on Tuesday.
"I talked (coach) Nick Saban earlier today and told him that I had made up my mind and I was ready to commit," Steen said. "I loved their facilities and everything I saw over there."
Steen also had offers from the likes of Miami, Florida State and Southern Miss, among other schools. He is a member of the ESPN 150 Watch List.
Alabama also landed two verbal commitments last Tuesday: Athens defensive end William Ming and Faith Academy (Mobile) cornerback Gerald West. Olive Branch (Miss.) safety Rod Woodson committed to the Crimson Tide on Friday.
Steen, who visited Alabama's camp in June, said he could play on either side of the ball in college. However, Crimson Tide offensive line coach Joe Pendry hoped to convince him to play offensive line.
"Coach Pendry told me that they're losing just about their whole line after this season, so he wanted me to play there," Steen said. "But they told me they'd give me a chance to try out on defense, too."
