Carver RB Demond Dennis favors Auburn | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Tailback Demond Dennis of Atlanta’s Carver High said he is favoring Auburn over several other college choices.

The 5-foot-10, 193-pound Dennis, a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150, said he wants to take official visits to Auburn, Louisville and Alabama-Birmingham. He is also considering a trip to Illinois. Dennis said some of his other offers are from Alabama, Central Florida, East Carolina, Miami of Ohio and Western Kentucky.

“I really like Auburn because they run the same offense we do, and they send a lot of running backs to the next level [NFL],” Dennis said.

Dennis plays in the shadows of Carver teammate Darren Myles, who is one of the nation’s top safety prospects.

Carver RB Demond Dennis commits to Georgia Tech | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Carver-Atlanta tailback Demond Dennis committed to Georgia Tech on Wednesday, less than four days after he was offered by the Yellow Jackets.

“I thought about waiting, but [Tech] told me that there was only one [A-back] scholarship left, and I didn’t want to miss out on a school like Georgia Tech,” Dennis said.

It was the fourth commitment for the Jackets in two days, with Dennis picking Tech over Louisville and Illinois. But it took an unusual turn of events for Dennis to end up at Tech this soon.

The 5-foot-9, 193-pound Dennis almost didn’t attend last Saturday’s game against Florida State, but decided to go at the last minute. He didn’t arrive to the game until the second quarter. He bumped into Tech assistant Buzz Preston after the game, and Preston handed him scholarship papers. Dennis eventually would have gotten the offer, but it might have taken a few days, which could have put his offer in jeopardy with so many players committing to Tech in recent days.

Dennis said he nearly committed to Tech on the spot, but said his father advised him to think it over. Dennis had his mind made up on Wednesday.

“I like how it’s close to home, and my friends and family can come see me play,” Dennis said.
