Four major offers for Tucker's Davis | Football recruiting | ajc.com

Tucker running back/linebacker Jonathan Davis kicked off his spring break with a visit to Central Florida over the weekend.
Davis is currently mulling over scholarship offers from the Knights, Clemson, Mississippi State and UAB.
“I think the most impressive thing about him is his playmaking ability as a running back or defensive player,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said Sunday evening.
“I think he’ll end up being a defensive player [in college]. He’s a phenomenal defensive player. He just has those instincts to find the football and make plays defensively.”
What Davis lacks in size at 5-foot-9, 195-pounds is offset by his speed.
“He went to a camp earlier this year and went 4.37 [seconds] in the 40,” Stephens said. “He has exceptional talent, speed and quickness.”
Stephens said he’d be surprised if Davis commits in the foreseeable future.
“There are several other SEC and ACC schools that have expressed an interest in him,” Stephens said. “I think it’s a situation where it’s early for him [to commit].
“I think Jonathan is a kid that is going to weigh his options and see what else is out there.”

By A. Bone. Davis says that he had fun on his trip to UCF, and liked what he saw. Coach O'Leary told him that he thought he was the best player in the state of Georgia.

By B Hayes. Penn State has offered, which Davis calls an honor. He talks about the tradition at LB there, and how he could be a part of it.

USC has emerged as the current front runner for LB Jonathan Davis (5-10 205) of Tucker, GA his father said Tuesday. "I would say South Carolina would be his favorite right now," Ty Davis said. "Then it would be Georgia, Auburn and Miami. We visited South Carolina and walked around the campus, and we liked the campus. I want to meet with some administrators to get a better feel for it. I want to send my son to a school where he's going to be comfortable." Davis plans to contact USC recruiter Ron Cooper tonight to set up a date for an unofficial visit. Davis also has an offer from Clemson and plans to visit there as well this summer. He has been to Florida, Central Florida, Auburn, Alabama and UAB for camps and unofficial visits. Davis has offers from USC, Clemson, Louisville, Penn State, Florida State, Miami, Central Florida UAB and Appalachian State. Last season he had 223 tackles with nine sacks and two interceptions. From the South Carolina site. Davis names South Carolina his leader, and talks about wanting to play in the SEC. He likes the direction the program is going in, and adds that you can't go wrong with a school in the SEC. He also talks about UCF, Louisville and Penn State, and some things he likes about them.

"I want to see how they feel about me," Davis said. "I'm still strong on South Carolina, but I haven't heard anything from them in a while." Davis counts offers from USC, Louisville, Penn State, Florida State, Miami, Central Florida, UAB and Appalachian State.

Has South Carolina withdrawn offer to Tucker LB Jonathan Davis? | College recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
After South Carolina got commitments from two linebackers and two safeties within the last month, there has been speculation that the Gamecocks may have withdrawn an offer to Tucker linebacker Jonathan Davis, arguably the state’s best overall player.
The 5-foot-8, 202-pound Davis confirmed that he has not had any recent contact with South Carolina, but said that he was unconcerned about his status with the Gamecocks.
“They [South Carolina] know how to get in touch with me, if they want,” Davis said. “I don’t know their situation, and I’m not worried about other commitments. If they want me, I’ll guess they let me know. If they don’t want me any more, then I guess they don’t want me anymore. I just don’t know.
“But I’m talking to several colleges. I want to go to a school that wants me. Everything is going to be just fine.”
Davis has offers from Central Florida, Oklahoma State and Alabama-Birmingham, among others.

Quote:
Tucker linebacker Jonathan Davis said he has set up his first official visit. He will travel to Oklahoma State on Oct. 3.
“They were the [most recent college] to offer me, and they feel like I could start as a freshman,” said Davis, an AJC Super 11 selection. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about Oklahoma State, all the facilities and great coaches. I’m looking forward to it.”
The 5-foot-7, 205-pound Davis said he will make an unofficial visit this Saturday to watch Alabama-Birmingham play Tulsa. Davis also has a lot of interest in Central Florida, and he hasn’t heard whether or not South Carolina is still offering a scholarship.

Davis Gets Close Look At USC
By Phil Kornblut
LB Jonathan Davis (5-9 205) of Tucker, GA took in the USC-LSU game Saturday with his father and left with a favorable opinion of the Gamecocks. "I love the place," Davis said. "I love the atmosphere. They have great fans, great coaches. I met coach Spurrier in person for the first time. I met Emmanuel Cook and Captain Munnerlyn. One of my friends goes there, Kenneth Miles. I just loved the place. It's a great place for football." Davis also got the chance to talk with recruiter Ron Cooper and got a clearer picture of how he's viewed by the Gamecock coaches. "We talked for about 15 minutes and he showed me around the lockerroom and where the new weight room is going to be," Davis said. "They want me to play the same position as Emmanuel Cook. I was already high on South Carolina, and as of Saturday, it was like, I can't wait to get to my official visit." Davis also is looking at Georgia Tech, UAB, Central Florida and Boston College for official visits. He has not set any dates. He does not claim a favorite.
