Henry Clay has produced a number of Division I college football standouts, including Aaron Boyd who earlier this month waited until signing day to announce for Kentucky.
The Blue Devils will have another one of the state's top prospects in the Class of '09, but center Samuel Simpson won't wait until the last minute to make a decision.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Simpson is already getting a ton of attention, including offers from Kentucky, Virginia and Duke, and will get plenty more looks.
"I'm not going to be one of these guys who waits until the end to make a decision," Simpson said. "I'm trying to figure out my camps and then I want to take some visits next fall and hopefully I'll have a decision by the early winter."
Simpson said he's going to UK's junior day and is likely to attend the Virginia spring game. He visited Tennessee for two games last season and is also looking to make a trip to Auburn where he's familiar with new offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, a former UK assistant.
The son of veteran Henry Clay coach Sam Simpson, the offensive lineman figures to be one of the top line prospects in the state next season and one of the top 10 overall prospects.
And the younger Simpson said he's learned a lot by watching what Boyd went through.
"I learned how people pull scholarships from you," he said. "I'm not even close in the process. I want to take my time and I want somebody that really wants me."

Henry Clay's Simpson commits: ‘I feel like Kentucky's on the rise' | KentuckySports.com

By Chip Cosby / ccosby@herald-leader.com
What had already been a good week for University of Kentucky football recruiting got even better when Henry Clay High School offensive lineman Sam Simpson committed to the Wildcats on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-4, 292-pound Simpson is ranked as the nation's No. 2 center by Scout.com and is No. 9 according to Rivals.com. Both recruiting services have listed him as a three-star recruit. Simpson chose the Wildcats over Vanderbilt and Virginia, and he also had offers from Auburn, Tennessee and at least 20 other schools.
“I just wanted to feel comfortable, and the comfort level I had with all the coaches played a big part in my decision,” Simpson said.
