The Iowa State football team has received its first verbal commitment of 2009.
Kyle Lichtenberg, an offensive lineman from Bettendorf, chose the Cyclones after also considering Colorado State, among others.
“His whole junior year we’ve been doing a lot of visiting,” said Lichtenberg’s mother, Diane. “He wants to go for engineering, and they have a good engineering school.
“We just felt like it was a really good fit.”
Diane (Doles) Lichtenberg played volleyball for Iowa State in the 1980s, twice earning all-Big Eight honors. She was the Cyclones’ female athlete of the year in 1983.
She is now coaching at Bettendorf High School. Her son stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 245 pounds.
“A lot of (schools) wanted him to go to summer camps, so they could look at him there,” Diane said. “He just really felt Iowa State was the place he wanted to be.”
From O&B News...says he is 100% still committed to ISU but because of Coach Chizik leaving he will explore some other options, namely Illinois and Iowa.
