NAPERVILLE - Geneva wrestler Frank Boenzi is upset with himself about a mistake he made at the IHSA Naperville North Sectional, but it's a mistake he can live with.
After all, Boenzi is headed to Champaign.
Despite suffering a championship match loss, a fate that many area wrestlers met Saturday, Boenzi will head to the IHSA State Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the University of Illinois as the lone Vikings representative.
Boenzi, the Vikings' heavyweight, pinned West Aurora's Juan Perez at the 4:42 mark to advance to the title match, before losing his balance and allowing Naperville North's Mike Albanese to gain position – a mistake that cost him the match.
Nevertheless, Boenzi’s second-place finish qualified him the state meet, and that was exhilarating enough for the sophomore.
