RB ANDRE DAWSON (6-1/210), Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Washington
CLASS OF 2010
OFFERS: Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin
PERFORMANCE: Ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns in 27-23 loss to Iowa City (Iowa) High.
STRENGTHS: Has tremendous size for a tailback, and when he lowers his shoulder pads, he will knock the defender backward. Also has an above-average change of direction.
WEAKNESSES: He should hit the hole a little harder and use his size and strength more often rather than trying to run laterally. – BARRY EVERY

Running back Andre' Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) is the early choice as the No. 1 class of 2010 prospect in Iowa.
The 6-foot-1 and 210-pound Dawson, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, combines good size, power, speed and the ability to make would-be tacklers miss like few high school prospects can.

Dawson rushed for 1,483 yards and averaged six yards per carry during his junior season. He scored 27 times on the ground and once on a pass reception. Dawson had similar numbers his sophomore year when he gained 1,387 yards, averaged 7.5 yards per carry and scored 13 times.

Not surprisingly, recruiters are already making their pitch for Dawson. He has scholarship offers from Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.

"I've taken unofficial visits to all three," Dawson said. "And a lot of other schools are sending mail."

Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Nebraska and Kansas are some of the schools sending mail to Dawson on a consistent basis. At this point he plans to research all of them and just about any other school that shows an interest.

"I don't have any favorite schools at all," Dawson said.

From the Oregon site. Though Oregon hasn't offered, Dawson says he is high on the Ducks and would like to visit. Kansas, Iowa and Illinois have sent official offers, while Wisconsin's offer is still a verbal one at this point. He is looking for a school that has a solid O-Line and team mindset.

Dawson picked up offers from Kansas and Cincy.

Quote:
"I was at a Kansas junior day over the weekend," Dawson said. "That went really well. I also went to an Iowa junior day. Florida State, Alabama and Michigan want me to come to junior days. I'm scheduled to go to Nebraska's spring game."

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

Lueders narrows his list to five - ESPN

Quote:
Running back Andre Dawson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) is coming off a junior season in which he led his team to an 11-2 record. He rushed for 1,483 yards, averaged six yards per carry and scored 28 times. The 6-foot-1 and 210-pound Dawson rushed for 1,387 yards and scored 13 times during his sophomore season.

By the end of January Dawson had scholarship offers from Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. He has since doubled his offer total, adding Purdue, Kansas and Cincinnati to his list.

"I'm looking at all six schools," Dawson said. "And I recently took a trip to Nebraksa. I went to their spring game and I went to a spring practice at Iowa. I'm going to visit Iowa State pretty soon and I want to get to Purdue and Cincinnati. I'm going to try to get out UCLA and Tennessee too."

Dawson said he does not have a favorite and probably won't select a college until after his senior football season.

"I want to give all the schools a shot," he said.
