First Offer For Combine Star
by Bob Lichtenfels, April 16, 2008 at 12:45pm ET
Miramar (Fla.) wide receiver Stedman Bailey has had a productive few weeks as he tore up the New Level Athletics Skills Pass Camp in South Florida and then he torched the competion at the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine at the Miami Dolphins Practice Facility two weeks ago.
The hardwork has paid off as Bailey informed Scout.com that he picked up his first scholarship a few minutes ago.
"He finally got his first written offer from South Carolina," Bailey said. "I'm excited and that pushes them towards the top of my list." Bailey is also expecting Boston College and West Virginia to offer in the near future.

Manny Navarro's Spring Tour, Part 1 - 05/07/2008 - MiamiHerald.com

Quarterback Eugene Smith (6-4, 190) and receiver Steadman Bailey (6-0, 185) are the can't-miss national recruits in the school's '09 class. Smith, Broward's leading passer last season with 2,101 yards, 25 TDs and 6 INTs, is considered the No. 6 overall quarterback in the country by Scout.com. Bailey, who caught 41 balls for 981 yards and 10 touchdowns, is likely South Florida's top receiver recruit. Both will get plenty of coverage as the season progresses. But I wanted to share with you some other names to watch from the Patriots, who finished as the overall runner-up at former Dolphin Heath Evans' 7-on-7 tournament last month.

"South Carolina is in the SEC, the toughest conference, and they spread the ball around being that it is Steve Spurrier, and he's a legend," Bailey said. "South Florida is not too far from home. They show a lot of love."
Bailey said he might make his decision during the season.

WR Stedman Bailey (5-11 185) of Miramar, FL already has an offer from USC and likes what Carolina has to offer. Bailey says he knows that Steve Spurrier is a legend and 'likes to throw the ball around the field." Stedman plays slot receiver and likes to create mismatches for linebackers. "There are always things to work on," he says, "I am always working on my routes, catching the ball, and getting faster." Robert Gillespie is his recruiter for the Gamecocks and Bailey says that the coaches have told him he would be a good candidate to replace Kenny McKinley. He says they are similar physically. He runs a 4.46 40. The Florida receiver has offers from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Rutgers, South Florida, Florida International, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Boston College. He has no favorites but intends to take one of his official visits to Columbia.

Snip-its:
The Charleston Gazette - West Virginia News and Sports - WVU - Mr. Smith coming to Morgantown*
Quote:
Maybe, though, Stewart and company can offer Smith a package deal. See, the quarterback isn't the only Miramar Patriot headed to Morgantown this weekend. Smith's favorite target, wideout Stedman Bailey, will also make the trip.
Most recruiting services rate Bailey as a three-star recruit.
Just don't tell that to Cogdell.
"He reminds me of that guy from Texas Tech,'' said the Miramar coach. "Michael Crabtree. He's 6-foot, 190 pounds. A 4.4 [40-yard dash] guy.''
Cogdell said some of the "same schools'' after Smith are also after Bailey.

Miramar's Smith, Bailey commit to West Virginia -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com
Quote:
They've been best friends and teammates for years.
Now Miramar quarterback Eugene Smith and receiver Stedman Bailey are taking the next step and attending college together.
During a weekend visit to West Virginia this weekend, both gave verbal commitments to the Mountaineers.
Smith, widely regarded as one of the top quarterbacks prospects in the nation, had offers from several schools including Alabama, South Florida and Louisiana State.
"Being up there and watching those guys play, I really felt in my heart this was the place I needed to be," said Smith. "The coaches are very classy guys and I could see they were passionate about the program."
Smith, a preseason Super 11 selection and last year's Sun Sentinel Class 6A-5A-4A Offensive Player of the Year, is Broward's top passer, completing 119 of 194 passes for 1,840 yards with 21 touchdowns and five interceptions.
