Picked up an offer from Michigan State. He is excited by the offer, but doesn't seem to be in a hurry to decide. Iowa, UW, and Purdue are all showing interest as well. Is most excited by Indiana, Minnesota, Louisville, CMU and MSU.

"I didn't think it was a big deal, the de-commitment," former Gopher verbal David Gilreath said. "I think this was the best decision of my life."

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

From the Indiana site. Hammock has watched the Indiana program go through tough times, but knows it is now on the rise. Indiana, Michigan State, Louisville, Minnesota and Northwestern have offered, and he would like to wait to see if schools like Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa or Purdue will offer. Early playing time and comfort level will be big factors.

From the ND site. Hammock was told by the Notre Dame staff that they would evaluate him and that he may have to wait to see if he gets offered. He thinks Illinois, Iowa, Purdue and Wisconsin are all close to offering.

Luers star set to be a Hoosier | The Journal Gazette

Quote:
Barnett’s teammate at Luers, senior linebacker Tyquan Hammock, is ranked No. 5 in the state by Rivals and said he hopes to make a decision by mid-September.

“It gives me enough time to take my officials (visits) and evaluate my pros and cons,” Hammock said.

Hammock has recently visited Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, IU, Purdue and is making a visit today to Michigan (which already has a commitment from Homestead senior linebacker Jordan Barnes). He has been offered scholarships by IU, Minnesota, Louisville and Michigan State.

Many believe Hammock would go to Minnesota, where his older brother Thomas is the recruiting coordinator. But Hammock said that hasn’t been the biggest rumor lately.

“The talk around here was that I was going to Michigan State, but I don’t know where they are hearing that from,” he said. “I don’t have a top five or a top three. I don’t have any favorites.”

The Luers teammates have also considered being college teammates.

Going to the same college probably is doubtful now that Barnett has committed to IU.

“I don’t know if Indiana is the right fit for me yet,” Hammock said. “I am going to look into it.”

Knights linebacker commits to Michigan State | The Journal Gazette

Quote:
Another week and another Bishop Luers football star makes a college commitment. And the Big Ten is reaping the benefits.

Six days after his teammate made a decision, senior linebacker Tyquan Hammock made an oral commitment Tuesday to Michigan State.

“Michigan State seems like a great fit for me and my style of play,” Hammock said. “I see an opportunity for myself to go in and contribute early.”

Last Wednesday, Luers senior cornerback Lawrence Barnett orally committed to Indiana. Another Fort Wayne player, Homestead senior linebacker Jordan Barnes, committed to Michigan on June 24.

Hammock said he chose the Spartans over Indiana and Minnesota. It was a tough choice for Hammock, especially considering the recruiting coordinator for the Gophers is Hammock’s brother, Thomas.

“It was real tough, not just Minnesota, but Indiana as well,” Hammock said. “It was a real tough decision to make, but with Minnesota a little more having my brother there.”

Hammock, who is 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, is ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the state by Rivals.com. He led the Knights, who won the Class 2A state championship, with 150 tackles and 11 sacks. He was named first-team All-SAC and 2A All-State.

Bishop Luers won the school’s seventh state championship in November in a 21-6 win over Heritage Christian at the RCA Dome, and it was a big hit from Hammock that caused a fumble and turned the tide for the Knights.

Hammock is one of 400 nominees nationwide to be nominated for the Army All-American Bowl. He also played on Luers’ 2A state championship baseball team.

Hammock said Michigan State planned to play him at linebacker, but he wasn’t sure what spot.

“I am a versatile player,” he said. “Wherever I can play the soonest, I will play there.”

The Knights enter this season, which begins Aug. 22, with their two best players not having the distraction of choosing a college.

“It was something I had always planned on doing, and that was committing before the season,” Hammock said. “And not having that burden on me the whole season. My whole plan was to commit before the season and be done with it. It came to a surprise, but I knew at a certain time that I wanted to go to Michigan State so I made the decision.”
