Also a standout on the Flossmoor basketball team. Same HS as '08 Illinois signees Supo Sanni and Russell Ellington.

Bio: Vikings basketball coach Jim McLaughlin eagerly awaited the arrival of the 6-6 Buchanan on the court, but first he had to help the football team take care of business. The linebackers behind him amassed higher tackle totals, but Buchanan was the ignitor for an unsung defense.

H-F sent two of its top seniors, Supo Sanni and Russell Ellington, to Illinois. Another H-F alum, Xavier Fulton, already is making his mark in coach Ron Zook's program. But Smith claims Buchanan could emerge as the best prospect of all.
