WholeHogSports.com - THE RECRUITING GUY : ‘Big back’ knows Hogs interested

Quote:
Arkansas is also looking in the St. Louis area for help at wide receiver, and Terry Hawthorne of East St. Louis (Ill. ) is interested in the Razorbacks. Hawthorne, 6-1, 185, 4. 49, had 62 receptions for 1, 152 yards and 18 touchdowns his junior year. He said he has offers from Arkansas, Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, Ohio State and Notre Dame. Hawthorne attended Illinois’ football camp Saturday and hopes to make three others camps, including the one at Arkansas.

“I’m going to try and make Arkansas, Arizona and Oklahoma camps,” Hawthrone said. “They [the Razorbacks ] are in my top five.” Hawthorne said he grew up being an Ohio State fan, but the Buckeyes are recruiting him as a safety and he wants to play on offense. He said he plans to take all five of his official visits, with some being during and after his season.

Lemming said Arkansas is in contention for one of the best in the country.

“Hawthorne is one of the premier wide receivers in the nation,” Lemming said. “He’s a go-to guy. A great punt returner. He’s exceptional out in space once he catches the ball, great moves. He’s a guy that could end up in the NFL in four years. He got those types of tools.”

ESPN - Barkley, Murray top seniors at Nike 7ON - Football Recruiting

Quote:
Terry Hawthorne, 6-0, 165
ATH East St. Louis (Ill.)

Hawthorne made the all-tournament team on defense but may have also been the top receiver in the camp. He was the top two-way player at the event and has the ability to be an impact player at receiver or safety at the college level.

For now, it appears Hawthorne will start out on defense. His athleticism is off the charts and has clearly surpassed his more highly-touted teammate Kraig Appleton as a college prospect in our eyes. Whenever East St. Louis needed a big play, the ball went to Hawthorne. He has plus speed, great leaping ability and his timing on jump-ball situations is off the charts. He's a tough, physical player with great instincts and is always around the ball. In big situations, he wants to be the guy making the play. That can't be said about every top player we've seen this year.

Flyers rebound in a big way; post lopsided win over Washington, D.C., school

Terry Hawthorn, No. 3, and Justin Cromer, No. 33, jump high to knock down a pass.
Quote:
East Side ruled the first half, outgaining St. John's 336 to 30 in total yardage. Wray tossed TD passes to Terry Hawthorn (13 yards), Chris Murphy (18 yards) and Kraig Appleton (14 yards), and also opened the scoring on a 1-yard run on East Side's first drive.

Molton (5-yard run) and Hawthorn (32-yard end around) also participated in the scoring cavalcade as East Side built a 40-7 halftime lead.

OrangeandBlueNews.com - East St. Louis stars shine in rout

Quote:
WR Terry Hawthorne, 6-0/168, East St. Louis

ASSETS: Has above-average change of direction, excellent speed and can adjust to the ball in the air.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to get stronger and add some muscle mass.
MOST IMPRESSIVE PLAY: While attempting a punt in the third quarter he took a bad snap and turned it into a 72-yard TD run, displaying blazing speed.
CONCLUSION: One of the top football players I have seen this year. Hawthorne could play either receiver or safety at the next level. He will be an impact player for the Fighting Illini as a freshman.
OrangeandBlueNews.com - From the Road: Offensive skill

Quote:
WR TERRY HAWTHORNE (6-0/168), East St. Louis (Ill.) High

COMMITTED TO: Illinois
PERFORMANCE: Had two catches for 77 yards and a TD, and also rushed for 72 yards and a TD in a 6-17 victory over Belleville (Ill.) West. He also had four tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.
STRENGTHS: Has excellent speed and quickness and is able to adjust to underthrown passes. Hawthorne does have the ability to play defense, as he is not afraid to hit and has the hips and ball skills to be a defensive back.
WEAKNESSES: Needs to add some size and strength in order to take the physicality of college football. - B.E.

ESPN - Size trumps speed with Class of 2009 - Football Recruiting

Quote:
Best hands

What Scouts Inc. looks for: These pass-catchers are focused on every play. They have the ability to show quick hands, pluck and tuck, and display ideal hand-eye coordination. This group of wideouts must show the body control to adjust to poorly thrown balls and extend to catch balls thrown outside their frame.

3. Terry Hawthorne (East St. Louis, Ill.)

Hawthorne has quick hands and will snatch and tuck away very quickly. He does an excellent job catching the ball away from his frame and is a very good leaper. His long arms and strong hands allow for acrobatic grabs, and he shows excellent concentration along the sideline.
