Recruiting Notebook: Sanni keeps his options open :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: High School Sports
Quote:
Suppo Sanni, the 6-4 wide receiver/defensive back for Homewood-Flossmoor, has 10 scholarship offers, including Illinois, Michigan State, Louisville, Iowa and Iowa State. But West Virginia, which tossed its hat into the ring only recently, might have an edge.
''I must see West Virginia and Louisville and get more details,'' he said. ''I was excited when West Virginia offered. I had been talking to them for a long time, hoping they would offer. It's a top-five program.
''I know a lot about the school. My sister, Olayinka, is a senior there. I won't say they have an edge, but I know a lot about the school.''
Sanni will keep his options open while he waits for more Big 10 and SEC schools to express interest. He doesn't plan to make a decision until after his official visits. H-F teammate and close friend Russell Ellington also has an offer from Iowa State, and both players have offers from Western Michigan, so it still is a possibility they will attend the same school.
''Recruiting is getting crazier and crazier,'' Sanni said. ''I never imagined this. I always was a basketball player. But I realized there were a lot of 6-4 basketball players. Then it became real big in football. I didn't know it would be this big. But now, I realize football is my sport.''

BY TAYLOR BELL
After visiting the campus, adding up all the pluses and comparing one school against another, Homewood-Flossmoor's Supo Sanni decided it was time to make a decision. On Sunday, the 6-4, 200-pound wide receiver/free safety made an oral commitment to Illinois.
Sanni, who said he was recruited as a wide receiver but likely will play free safety in college, chose Illinois over Iowa and West Virginia, where his sister Olayinka is a senior. He also had been offered by Michigan State, Louisville, Iowa State and Western Michigan.
