Recruiting Notes: Althoff's Ford commits to Illinois
By Nate Latsch
SPECIAL TO THE POST-DISPATCH
12/01/2007
There is no place like home, apparently, for Jason Ford.
After twice verbally committing to play college football at the University of Iowa, the Althoff running back, who has rushed for more yards than any St. Louis area back, has reversed field and committed to coach Ron Zook and the University of Illinois.
"I decided Thanksgiving Day that I wanted to make a change, so I called Coach (Reggie) Mitchell and Coach Zook at Illinois and told them that I wanted to commit to them," Ford told OrangeandBlueNews.com.
Ford, a 6-foot, 220-pound senior, rushed for 1,773 yards and scored 22 touchdowns this season.
He finished his four-year varsity career at Althoff with 6,415 rushing yards, 6,819 total yards and 75 touchdowns.
He broke the St. Louis area rushing record set by Hazelwood Central's Tony VanZant, who rushed for 6,143 yards from 1982-1985.
Rivals.com rates Ford as the 14th best senior prospect in Illinois and the 29th best senior running back prospect nationally.
He could be the first of a couple of Metro East seniors to commit to Illinois, including Cahokia tight end London Davis, East St. Louis lineman Brandon Harold and Edwardsville lineman David Young.
