At Leto, they know recruiting is all about whom you know.

Very quickly, high-profile colleges are learning about Falcons running back Jeremy Deering.

Deering, a 6-foot-2, 208-pound junior, has received offers from Purdue, Syracuse, Oregon State and USF, Leto offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator Frank Rose said. Rose also said he expects formal offers from Alabama and UCF in upcoming days.

"We sent out about 60 highlight tapes on Jeremy," Rose said. "He got a late start because we really only had one kid schools were looking at last year."

Rose believes this is just the beginning of what will be a fruitful recruiting season for Deering. He also is receiving interest from Florida, Penn State, Arkansas, Pitt and FIU.

"When (Penn State recruiting coordinator) Mike McQueary first saw his tape, he said, 'Oh my God,' " Rose said. "The biggest thing is getting the word out. Once you see him, you can't help but like him. He has size, he's fast. He's a hurdler. He runs the 110 and 300 hurdles. He has 4.45 40 speed."

Deering ran for 1,077 yards and four touchdowns in 2008 while playing running back and quarterback for Leto (3-7 last season). This season, Rose said Deering will primarily play running back with the addition of Gaither transfer Dominic Marino, a rising junior, at quarterback. But Deering might still see some snaps at quarterback out of the Wildcat formation.

UPDATE: Deering receives two offers

Quote:
Leto running back Jeremy Deering continues to bag scholarship offers.

Today, he received an offer from UCF. On Monday, Deering received a written offer from Kentucky. Falcons assistant Frank Rose said he also expects Deering to receive offers from Oklahoma State and West Virginia in the next four-to-six days.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Deering sent out about 60 highlight tapes and has offers from Purdue, Syracuse, Oregon State and USF. He rushed for 1,077 yards and four touchdowns in 2008 also playing quarterback for 3-7 Leto.
Road trip

Quote:

Leto's Jeremy Deering ran into Plant's Mike Mirabella on a road trip to the Midwest. Both Division I football prospects are visiting a series of Big Ten campuses including Purdue, Ohio State and Penn State.

A stop at Illinois earned both guys scholarship offers from the Illini.

Deering receives offer from Ohio State, Gators expected to follow

Quote:
Deering received perhaps his best scholarship offer yet, a verbal offer from Ohio State, on Tuesday afternoon, Falcons offensive coordinator Frank Rose said.

Rose also said he expects an offer from Florida from the end of the week. Michigan is also very interested.

It is Deering's 10th offers in a list that includes Purdue, Syracuse, Oregon St., USF, UCF and Kentucky.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Deering rushed for 1,077 yards and four touchdowns in 2008 also playing quarterback for Leto, which was 3-7 last season.

Scout.com: Florida RB collecting more offers

6/3

By Mike Bakas. Arkansas has just offered. Jeremy says some of his more recent offers are from Florida State, Duke, and Marshall....he'll probably visit FSU sometime this summer.

Staying put pays off for Leto's standout running back Jeremy Deering

Quote:
One advantage is that Deering has been showcased at multiple positions -– mostly because he’s needed to be with just 34 players on the varsity roster. Last year, he played running back, quarterback and defensive back. This year, the Falcons plan on utilizing him mostly at running back and sometimes at quarterback in a Wildcat formation.

It’s allowed college recruited to see his skills. And now, about 74 percent of the schools recruiting him, Leto offensive coordinator Frank Rose said, are recruiting him as a wide receiver.

“At his size, it’s the perfect spot for him,” Rose said. “He has great hands. We want to utilize him more there this year.”
Transferring may be the hip new trend, but Leto's Jeremy Deering refuses to bail on team -- OrlandoSentinel.com

Quote:
His preference, though, is to go out-of-state, with Illinois, Purdue and Rutgers among his top choices.
