Local Standout Showing Interest in Terps - Josh Barr's Recruiting Insider
Quote:
I borrowed Steinberg's reporter cap last night and spent some time on the phone with Theodore Roosevelt Coach Daryl Tilghman, who said that Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin was at the Northwest Washington school earlier in the day to meet with standout defensive end Darin Drakeford.
Drakeford holds scholarship offers from Maryland and Illinois, with Tilghman expecting an offer from Syracuse on Friday.
"At first, I thought he was lukewarm toward Maryland, but after they talked he kind of had a different look at Maryland and is getting a little more interested," Tilghman said of the 6-1, 210-pound Drakeford, who is projected as a rush linebacker with about 20-25 more pounds on his frame. "I know he's going to their camp this summer."
Tilghman acknowledged that many local players want to go away to school, and that Florida is one school in which Drakeford has interest.
"We contacted them and they want us to send some film out, that was like his dream school," Tilghman said. "But you know how that goes. It depends what their needs are. And it's kind of tough getting into Florida. They don't have to leave the state."

From the Duke site...favors Pitt because they are talking about offense and defense...still considering Duke but is focused on his senior season. Will try to take all five officials.

T. Roosevelt's Drakeford Chooses Terps - Josh Barr's Recruiting Insider
Quote:
Theodore Roosevelt senior linebacker Darin Drakeford committed to Maryland on Monday afternoon, choosing the Terps over Illinois, which has had tremendous success recruiting the Washington area (especially D.C. public schools) thanks to assistant head coach and former Maryland offensive coordinator, Mike Locksley, a Ballou graduate.
Drakeford was on the Maryland campus Monday when he visited Coach Ralph Friedgen to tell him of his committment. Maryland offensive coordinator and recruiting ace James Franklin was on the Roosevelt sideline for the Rough Riders' game Oct. 10 against Coolidge.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Drakeford was a second-team All-Met last year, when he set a school record with 22 sacks. He is one of top all-around athletes in D.C. public schools, starring also on the Rough Riders' basketball team that advanced to the City Title Game last March.
