Washington DB Smith nabs offers from UGA, Florida, several others | Football recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Washington defensive back Brandon Smith has received several offers in the last couple weeks from Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Florida State, according to Bulldogs coach Rodney Cofield.
Smith, a 5-foot-10, 180-pounder, is being recruited as an athlete. He is also one of the city’s top sprinters on the school’s track and field team.
“Georgia was the first one to offer,” Cofield said. “He hasn’t made a decision yet. We haven’t gotten that far in the process yet.”
Georgia defensive back Reshad Jones was the last Division I player from Washington to sign with a major college. Jones was a AJC Super 11 selection prior to signing with the Bulldogs in 2006. Former Bulldogs linebacker Jarvis Jackson also played at Washington for Cofield.
“Georgia has been good for the hometown kids,” Cofield said. “Right now, we are just going through the schools and trying to get ready for our season.”
Smith runs the 100 and 200-meters for Washington’s track team and was timed at 4.4 in the 40-yard dash in a recent scouting combine.

DB Branden Smith (5-11 165) of Atlanta attended Clemson's spring game Saturday. "I got a chance to meet with the coaches and players," he said. "I talked to James Davis (an Atlanta native) one on one. They play a lot of man to man, and that's like my style. I talked to all the coaches. They said they would like to have me." Smith also has offers from Florida State, Georgia, Auburn and Alabama, and he's also getting interest from Florida, Georgia Tech and LSU. Smith said all of the schools asre recruiting him about the same. He also went to spring games at Georgia and Auburn. He is going to attend upcoming combines at Alabama and Auburn. NC State 14th school to offer Washington DB/WR Smith | College recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Washington defensive back and wide receiver Branden Smith received his 14th college scholarship offer a few days before the beginning of spring practice.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Smith added North Carolina State to a growing list of college offers that include Georgia Tech and Georgia. The Bulldogs were the first school to offer Smith, who missed the first week of spring drills because of his track commitment.
At last weekend’s GHSA state track meet in Jefferson, Smith finished runner-up in the 100 meters with a time of 10.5 seconds. He helped anchor the 400-relay team to a victory.
Smith said he will make his college choice in midseason, and he hasn’t narrowed his list.
“Right now, I want to get ready for the season,” Smith said. “I’m happy with the offers I have so far, but I haven’t started thinking about where I’m going.”
On Monday, a few college coaches stopped by practice to watch the Bulldogs work out. Current Georgia free safety Reshad Jones, a former all-state and Super 11 player at Washington, visited with the Washington coaching staff earlier in the day.
Smith also has offers from West Virginia, Michigan, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miami, Florida, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Maryland and Florida State.
“I like everyone, and I’m pretty open,” Smith said.

Smith Keeping Options On The Table
By Phil Kornblut
DB Branden Smith (5-11 165) of Atlanta is still not ready to reduce his long list of offers to a more manageable number. "I'm open to everyone," Smith said. "Everybody is the same." Clemson and USC are among his offers and both are still involved. Smith attended camps at Clemson, Georgia, Auburn and LSU but only worked out at Auburn and LSU. His trip to Clemson was his second. Smith said he's hearing the same pitch from his recruiters. "All the coaches say the same thing," he said. "They really want me and I can help the team a lot." Smith has no other visits planned this summer. He's also not decided on official visits, and he's not decided on any games he'll attend this season.

By A Bone. Smith has great visits to both Alabama and LSU, and plans to go to a game at each this coming season. He is wide open and won't decide until the Under Armour AA Game.
