By A. Ordoqui. Smith holds offers from Miami, USF, UCF, Auburn, FSU. LSU, Alabama, Vandy, Oregon, and Wisconsin. He doesn't name a leader, but does say he grew up a Miami fan.

By M. Bakas. Smith was one of the most impressive players at the 7-on-7 camp this past weekend. He says that even though he gre up a Miami fan, that will not factor into his final choice and that he is wide open.

From the Florida site...coaches from FSU, UF and Miami have been by his school. Names a top 5 of Auburn, Boston College, Michigan, Florida State and LSU but says that could change by the end of the summer. He is focused on spring practice.

Manny Navarro's Spring Tour, Part 1 - 05/07/2008 - MiamiHerald.com

Quote:
Quarterback Eugene Smith (6-4, 190) and receiver Steadman Bailey (6-0, 185) are the can't-miss national recruits in the school's '09 class. Smith, Broward's leading passer last season with 2,101 yards, 25 TDs and 6 INTs, is considered the No. 6 overall quarterback in the country by Scout.com. Bailey, who caught 41 balls for 981 yards and 10 touchdowns, is likely South Florida's top receiver recruit. Both will get plenty of coverage as the season progresses. But I wanted to share with you some other names to watch from the Patriots, who finished as the overall runner-up at former Dolphin Heath Evans' 7-on-7 tournament last month.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Elite 11 Day One: Every's Top Six Performers

Quote:
Eugene Smith, 6-3, 182, DQB, Miramar (FL) Miramar

Assets: He has a very quick release and real zip on his short and intermediate passes.
What was most impressive on Monday: Has really improved on his accuracy from his previous two camps at Miami and Gainesville.
On the Hoof: Smith is the leanest of all the competitors. His body is built like a basketball shooting guard, similar to that of A.D. McPherson out of high school.
Conclusion: Currently the only uncommitted quarterback competing at the Elite11. Since he is one of the few top-rated quarterbacks yet to make up his mind, I expect his recruiting to really become a heated battle.

Miramar's Smith a championship QB -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

Quote:
Miramar's Eugene Smith, one of the best quarterbacks in the country, finally led his team to a championship July 12at the Nike South Florida 7-on-7 Football Challenge.

Smith helped guide Miramar to the title in his home city after near misses at USF and at the Heath Evans event in West Palm Beach.

"It feels good we got over the hump," Smith said. "We had been to a couple of championships, but didn't win when we were supposed to win, so it feels good we won this one."

Smith (6 feet 3, 185 pounds) looked great, showing off his laser arm and the ability to read plays as they develop. He throws into space better than some college quarterbacks and possesses excellent composure.

"Early, I came out sluggish and wasn't working on my mechanics," Smith said. "As the day progressed, I got better and better and eventually I had a great day."
Quote:
Smith announced a top five of Auburn, Boston College, Michigan, Florida State and LSU in May, but has since backed off.

"I had five, but it was just too hard for me to leave it at five," Smith said. "I renege on my top five and am back to being wide open. There are probably 10-20 schools that I am going to evaluate."

Smith lists a number of factors in his decision, including "playing time, good education, good coaching staff and a coach that is going to be there throughout my years that I am there, great fan support and good facilities."

From the USF site. Smith has a group of about 10 schools he is looking at that he chooses not to name (he does mention USF, Boston College, FSU and Florida). He will take all of his visits and announce on signing day, and adds that distance may be a factor.

From the Boston College site...talks about his goals this upcoming season...evaluating schools before making any cuts and talks about his interest in BC. Will likely take officials during the season.

ESPN - Southeast Recruiting Blog

Quote:
Word is Florida State is making a strong push for quarterback Eugene Smith (Miramar, Fla.) and that they may have to beat South Florida to land him. Smith has been a lean to West Virginia and later Michigan during the process but now could be staying closer to home.

While his recruitment is somewhat in doubt, his talent is not. Smith will be a great addition to any recruiting class.
