Porter is an interesting kid and could very well turn out to be a sleeper among the 2009 class. He is a two-way player in high school. A physical and productive guard we would not all be surprised to see him play there at the college level. He does not have great height, but carries a lot of bulk. On paper you worry he may be too bulky, but on film he seems to carry and play with his weight well. At his size though he will need to be careful how he adds any more bulk. He is a compact type kid that can use that to his advantage to generate some power and cause some real collisions. He looks comfortable when asked to pull, gets down the line, locates his target, and can often not only kick-out, but knock down defenders. Like many high school prospects he needs to watch his pad level, but when he fires off the ball low and gets under a blockers pads he can drive a defender off the ball. Needs to be more consistent and brining his hips underneath him so he does not get overextended. A solid pass protector that will use his hands to punch. Plays with solid knee bend and has the feet to comfortable shadow a rusher in the short area. Porter could be a productive guard, but displays some flashes at defensive tackle that will likely at least earn him some time there first. Has a solid get-off. Like on offense he displays the ability to fire off the ball low and win the leverage battle. Will shoot his hands and can knock a blocker into the backfield. He can be a powerful and stout presence in the trenches against the run. Moves well enough to navigate along the line of scrimmage and be disruptive between the tackles. As a pass rusher he can bull and will display ability to get to half-a-man and get his hips turned some to try and work past. Porter is a good prospect. Size can be a concern, but if he can manage his weight could be a nice steal for some program.

Fromt the UNC site. Porter had a great visit to North Carolina, but the coaches told him they would like him to lose some weight before they offer. He claims offers from Florida, Michigan, FSU, Miami, Clemson, Colorado, Duke and East Carolina. He doesn't know when he will narrow things down.

From the Rutgers site. Porter talks about his visits to Florida and Florida State this past weekend, both of which he said went great. He will visit Clemson soon, and says he would also like to check out Rutgers. He is looking for a college with a good business school that also plays "big time football".

From the Clemson site. Porter had a great visit to Clemson and was offered on his trip. Distance is not a factor, and he has no timetable for making his choice.

By M Bakas. Committed to Miami. Porter talked to his family, and decided that Miami was where his heart was telling him to go. He was impressed with the staff and the academic support they provide to players. He notes the tradition of Miami putting defensive linemen into the NFL.
