Pride's Greene In Recruiting Spotlight :: WRAL.com

Quote:
Zach Greene excelled for Leesville Road in 2007 on offense, defense and special teams, and his performances have landed him in the national recruiting spotlight.

Greene, a member of the Class of 2009, is listed as an athlete by Rivals.com, checking in at 5-foot-9 and 155 pounds.

"Zach is taking the approach that he is going to have a handful of schools he's interested in, he's going to listen to them, and then make a choice," Leesville Road head coach David Green told WRAL. "He's not going to do the full gamut of recruiting."

He doesn't have any of the national ranking accolades, and he isn't a five-star recruit, but Green says that's not something his player is concerned about. "He's not interested in how many 'stars' he can accumulate, national recruiting, etcetera."

Right now, Greene only reports one official offer - a scholarship from Tom O'Brien and the N.C. State Wolfpack. But, Rivals.com reported earlier this week that Greene may be close to an offer from Duke.

Coach Green told WRAL that he wasn't aware of any offers forthcoming from Duke for sure, but did say that the Blue Devils had requested film. Greene also attended Duke's Junior Day. "I know he has interest in [Duke] and that they have interest in him," Green said.

Greene is making a name for himself across the nation, not just in North Carolina. According to Rivals.com, interest has been shown by Auburn, Clemson, East Carolina, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In the Rivals.com article, Greene said that Auburn and East Carolina had shown a lot of interest lately, and that after attending the Pirates' Junior Day he began receiving a lot of mail from them.

Despite the national interest, Coach Green said that most of the schools that Greene has a high level of interest in are regional schools.

"He decided to fore-go participating in some national and regional events he was invited to go to in order to attend events at schools like Duke and State instead," Green said.

In fact, Greene just completed an unofficial visit to N.C. State. On Apr. 3, Greene attended one of the Pack's practices, and he returned on Apr. 5 for a scrimmage. While there, Greene was able to talk with Coach O'Brien, as well as Dana Bible. Interestingly enough, Bible's son, Logan, is a quarterback at Leesville Road.

Green said that the family is taking a "level headed" approach to the entire process. "The school he chooses will have to be a good fit academically for what he wants to study. He is an excellent student and knows that getting a solid education is what this is about."

"He's a model student, citizen, athlete -- -you name it. Quiet, soft spoken, well liked by everyone," Green said.

According to his coach, Greene anticipates on making a decision before the start of football season. "As his dad says, he only has one senior season and he's not going to let anything get in the way of it," Green told WRAL.

"He has an offer to a good school that he really likes (State). He'll get offers to the other schools he's interested in. He'll be able to make a good decision and go where he wants to go."

Last season, Greene played significant minutes on all sides of the ball. On offense, as a junior, Greene caught 45 passes for over 700 yards and eight scores, and he also ran the ball for 110 yards and a single touchdown. On defense, Greene played cornerback where he recorded 50 tackles and three interceptions. The junior also returned kicks for the Pride during a very successful season.

Pride's Greene gets offer from Duke :: WRAL.com

Quote:
WRAL has learned that Leesville Road football star Zach Greene has received an offer from the Duke Blue Devils.

Leesville head football coach David Green notified WRAL of the offer late Tuesday.

According to Green, the offer came from the Blue Devils earlier on Tuesday after Zach visited the campus, worked out, and met with new head coach David Cutcliffe.

Green said that Duke was recruiting Zach as a cornerback. The rising senior is capable of playing on both sides of the ball, as well as special teams.

As a junior in 2007, Greene caught 45 passes for over 700 yards and eight touchdowns. He also put the ball on the ground for 110 yards and one score. Defensively, the 5-foot-9, 155-pounder recorded 50 tackles and pulled down three interceptions. The Leesville Road defense allowed just over 10-points-per-game in 2007.

Greene received an offer from South Carolina last week. The Gamecocks are also recruiting Greene as a cornerback.

Both his coach and his father have told WRAL that he plans to make a decision by the beginning of football season.

Green told WRAL last week that Zach's top two schools were N.C. State and USC.

From the Duke site. Committed to Duke. Greene couldn't pass up the academic side of Duke and says he is "looking at a 40 year decision, not just a 4 year decision". The Duke staff recruited Greene the hardest throughout the process and made him a priority, both things that had a huge impact on his choice.
