HuskerExtra.com - Lincoln, Nebraska - Huskerextra - Football - Huskers land big defensive tackle recruit
Quote:
BY STEVEN M. SIPPLE / Lincoln Journal Star
Thursday, Aug 02, 2007 - 12:05:47 am CDT
Darius Parish said he carries a 3.7 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale at Wichita (Kan.) North High School.
He obviously wants to maintain that level in college, and thinks Nebraska might be the best place to do it.
NU’s emphasis on academics ranks high on the list of reasons why the 6-foot-3, 325-pound defensive tackle on Wednesday announced his verbal commitment to join the Huskers’ 2008 scholarship recruiting class.

Getting to know - Darius Parish
The Wichita Eagle
Fri, Oct. 12, 2007
Quote:
Parish is a senior offensive and defensive lineman. He is a 6-foot-4, 320-pounder who has orally committed to play on the defensive line at Nebraska. The Redskins are 1-5 going into the start of Class 6A-District 7 play tonight at Maize.
You're involved in the leadership program at North. In which activities are you involved?
"I'm the head of the mentoring program right now. We're developing and trying to get the mentoring program strong. It's kind of shaky right now. We're trying to get more mentors -- we have plenty of mentees. We're taking a trip to WSU to help us develop our mentoring program and make it better. We think we have the top leadership program in the nation right now."
Why is becoming involved in the leadership program important to you?
"I just want to give back in a way. People consider me a leader, but I consider myself more of a leader in the classroom. I just like to help out; I like to help people. I want to be seen more as a student-athlete, with 'student' in capital letters."
You've committed to Nebraska, but you aren't ready to say you will definitely be playing there next season. Why not?
"The recruitment process has been kind of iffy. More coaches have been calling me besides Nebraska. I'm looking at other schools, but I'm not sure right now."
The Redskins are just 1-5 this season. What is it like being a standout player on a struggling team?
"It's not difficult. You stand out, I guess, with the way you play and the image you have on the field. I've been here four years, and I feel like it's a great place to go to school, tradition-wise. I feel that we're the underdogs, basically, but we have a lot of standout players."
You're also active in your church. What does your faith mean to you?
"It means a lot. I'm kind of big on religion. I plan on studying and being in some groups when I get to college. I want to be involved in a lot. I need to maintain with my grades and my books, but I want to be involved."

Parish Officially Decommits
Lincoln Journal Star- Husker Extra
Thursday, Oct 25, 2007 - 09:48:30 pm CDT
Quote:
Then on Thursday, it was reported that Parish and Woods, who is visiting Penn State this week, are off Nebraska’s list, too.
Parish was a “soft verbal” commitment and might not have come to Nebraska even if there wasn’t uncertainty in the program.
This puts Nebraska at 21 verbal commitments. That number is likely to go down before it goes up

From the Wisconsin site...talks about his recent contact with the Badgers' staff and about possibly scheduling an official around his basketball schedule. Kansas also wants him to make an official.

"At the time that I committed to Nebraska they were the best offer that I had," Darius Parish stated. "But as soon as I committed I started getting a lot of other schools being interested. All that attention kind of showed me that there were other possibilities out there." Darius Parish has set up visits to Kansas on Dec. 14 and will be visiting Wisconsin on Dec. 7.
