Harbaugh vs. Michigan

Mark Snyder's Blog: Harbaugh strikes back against Hart, Carr

On Hart comments: 'That wouldn't have happened while Bo was there'

August 10, 2007

Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh is not backing down.

In fact, he seems to be on the attack more than ever in the wake of disparaging comments he made in May about Michigan's academic standards for football players.

While Harbaugh would not comment to the Detroit media last week, following tailback Mike Hart’s rebuttal at Big Ten media days in Chicago, Harbaugh had no problem taking the offensive in an ESPN.com column posted Wednesday.

A better response to Harbaugh

Thursday, August 09, 2007

Jim Harbaugh just won't go away.

There he was again, being brought up at Wednesday's local Rotary meeting, where University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr was honored for his community service.

Carr was, once again, asked about Harbaugh's claim Michigan has compromised academic standards for football success.

U-M coach and wife lauded for service to community

Thursday, August 09, 2007
BY JOHN HEUSER News Sports Reporter

Lloyd Carr talked about Wolverines football, dropped actor Russell Crowe's name and fired another shot in his dispute with Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, all while picking up an award Wednesday.

The University of Michigan football coach accepted a distinguished service award on behalf of himself and his wife, Laurie, from the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor.

this is really sad.

I don't agree with Harbaugh but I don't exactly agree with Mike Hart trashing him the way he did. Jamie Morris and Lloyd Carr have every right to say whatever they want about this situation and they actually know Harbaugh, but I just don't agree with Hart trashing the guy like that. Show some class Mikey, don't stoop down to Harbaugh's level.

Harbaugh obviously doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut though. He's already ruffling the feathers of Pete Carroll and USC and Lloyd Carr and Michigan.

Personally I think he's doing it for one reason only, media attention and exposure. Would anybody even be talking about him or his program right now if he wasn't shooting off at the mouth constantly?

Some Harbaugh quotes that I found to be somewhat hypocritical, contradicting in nature, and hysterical.

"It seemed very orchestrated and organized, especially coming two months after my comments were made," said Harbaugh

Sorry Jim, but Lloyd was asked by a reporter about your comments and at first he tried to side-step the issue, but when someone asked him if those comments come across as arrogant, elitist, and self-serving Carr agreed with the reporter that asked the question. Mike Hart was asked a similar question and he let go.

"Mike Hart is just repeating their messages," Harbaugh said.

Mike Hart isn't repeating anybodys messages Jim, that's just what he himself honestly thinks of you. Nobody told Hart what to say, he's just a guy that always speaks his mind and pops off with things he probably shouldn't say in public. I'm pretty sure Carr was not thrilled that Hart took it as far as he did. Carr isn't one to air dirty laundry in public, like, ever. He likes to keep things as closed off and in-house as possible.

"When I was a player, there would have been nobody saying anything like what Mike Hart said about me. We would have been too afraid of the consequences. That wouldn't have happened while Bo was there."

Riiiiightt (Dr. Evil voice) Jim. You never popped off at the mouth under Bo. You never guaranteed a win over Ohio State or called out anybody.

What I find hysterical about him saying this is that if Bo were still alive he never would've started this mess and said what he said about Michigan. If Bo were alive he would just never have said what he said.

"I learned from a great man named Bo Schembechler that you speak the truth as you know it. It may not be the popular thing, but you speak your mind."

OK Jim, so it's perfectly OK for you to speak your mind but it's not A-OK for Mike Hart to speak his?

Totally agree. All Hart's comments did was draw attention to a situation the University shouldn't have dignified with a response. I just hope this mess doesn't get any further exposure, such as getting on Gameday. I suspect it's too late for that.

If I said I didn't like what Mike Hart said than I would be a liar.

Same here, but I still don't think he should've aired that out there in public like that. I think he could've gotten his point across as well without being as harsh. It really sucks that Harbaugh is now excommunicated and that he won't keep his mouth shut because he truly was one of the greatest to ever play at Michigan.

Joel Ferguson on UM, Harbaugh

MSU trustee Joel Ferguson sounded off Wednesday morning about the whole Jim Harbaugh-UM saga.

He told Tim Staudt on his Lansing radio show that Harbaugh's comments about UM cutting corners for student-athetes were right, but the former quaterback "didn't present it the right way."

Ferguson, who claimed on the show that he's tight with some adiminstrative types at UM (he claims at least one agrees with him), went on to say, "Michigan has been very creative..they have a different curriculum for their student-athletes."

Ferguson also said on the show, "a large number of (UM) athletes - if they were in the same classrooms with other students - couldn't compete."
