Learning the ropes

Quote:
As a junior, Northside linebacker Eric Fields already feels like a star.

It doesn't hurt that during his two years on varsity, the Eagles have gone 30-0 with two GHSA Class AAAA titles. But Fields knew he made it when the college offers started to roll in.

"I feel like I am on top of the world when I get an offer," said Fields, who has scholarship offers from Georgia, Clemson, Florida State and Miami. "I feel like a star."

LB Eric Fields (6-3 215) of Warner Robins, GA committed Thursday to Clemson over Miami. Fields visited Clemson earlier this year for a junior day, and that started him to think hard about the Tigers. "It felt more like home to me," Fields said. "I got to talk to the players about the school and they liked it a lot." Fields plays the weak linebacker spot and last season had 93 tackles with 14 for loss and seven sacks. "I like to blitz," Fields said. "I have the power and the speed to hit people. They blitz a lot, especially the position I'm going for. They call it the bandit." Fields also had offers from Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Central Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi State. Fields is the fifth commitment for Clemson's 2009 class.

Clemson commitment LB Eric Fields (6-3 215) of Warner Robins, GA has not seen the interest from other schools decline since he made his pledge in early April. He talked to his recruiter from Auburn Monday night. "He was telling me about their academics and how good a player I would be there," Fields said. Clemson recruiter Billy Napier was by the school Wednesday for a second visit. Scouts from Arkansas, Florida, Florida State and Georgia also have been thre. Fields now has offers from Clemson, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Central Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi State. Fields said he'll camp this summer at Clemson, Florida, Florida State and Auburn. As to whether or not his Clemson commitment remains solid, Fields said, "I would say so, probably."

LB Eric Fields (6-3 215) of Warner Robins, GA, who committed to Clemson in April, has pulled out of that commitment. Fields told a reporter from the Macon Telegraph that "he pulled the trigger too early on his commitment." In the report, which appears in a blog on the paper's website, Fields said he's still considering Clemson and Georgia. Fields has not been available for comment.

Northside LB Eric Fields picks Clemson over UGA | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Northside-Warner Robins linebacker Eric Fields has ended his flirtation with UGA and committed again to Clemson, according to GoGamecocks.com.

"I like [Clemson interim coach Dabo Swinney]," Fields told the website. "They told me they want me to play free safety, where I can blitz a lot."

Fields, an AJC Super 11 selection, committed early to Clemson but backed away from it in early September, saying he wanted to take official visits with both the Tigers and Georgia.

Fields took an unofficial visit to Georgia for the Alabama game with his high school teammate, defensive tackle Abry Jones, who has committed to UGA. According to Jones, UGA linebackers coach John Jancek spoke with Fields at the game but only about taking the ACT test again and not a scholarship.

Fields also told the website that he will only take an official visit to Clemson.
