From the LSU site. Loston still only has an offer from Texas A&M, but says that his top two schools are Clemson and Georgia. He says that once he hears from LSU, they will be at the top of his list as well. His choice will depend on if the team has a strong defense, and if they have a chance to play for a championship soon.

DB Craig Loston (6-3 208) of Aldine, TX plans to visit Clemson with his mother for the Tigers' spring game in April, and right now the Tigers are so far in front of the rest of the 20 schools to offer him, he may go ahead and commit while on the visit. "They would be a nine," on a scale of ten rating the Tigers' lead on the pack Loston said Wednesday night. "I was going to commit to Clemson but my mom said to wait. My cousin (Russell Shepard) committed to LSU, and I like LSU, and my mom told me to wait until after I visit Clemson to give me something to compare. I've been to LSU several times." Loston also has offers from LSU, Kansas State, Colorado, Southern Cal, Michigan, Kansas and others. He actually took the first step in building the relationship with the Tigers. "I let them know I was interested and I sent them some film," he said. "They didn't know anything about me and I put myself out there for them. I like the way they play. I like their style and I think I would fit in well with their defense. I talk to coach (Billy) Napier once a week. I'm going to start talking to him two times a week." Last season Loston had 68 tackles with 3 interceptions. He also plays receiver and caught 17 passes for 847 yards and seven touchdowns averaging 33 yards per catch. And he had 400 yards in returns with two touchdowns. Loston, who said he has run a 4.34 forty, runs the 110 hurdles and the 4 X 100 and the 4 X 200 relays in track. He said he wants to major in pre-med and he also wants to take drama classes in college.

Prized DB Craig Loston (6-3 210) of Aldine, TX has narrowed his list from over 20 offers to a final two...Clemson and LSU. "It's because of their style of play," Loston said about why the two Tigers are his finalists. "The defense, and how the safeties play. Neither one leads because I haven't been to either one, so I can't say." But that will change later this month. Loston will visit Clemson for the spring game. His mother will join him on the trip, his first to Clemson. "I want to see The Hill," Loston said. "That's the first thing I want to see. And I want to see the athletic facilities." Loston said he hasn't visited any schools yet, and after Clemson he will go to Texas A&M on April 19th for their spring game. One advantage for LSU here is that they have a commitment from Loston's cousin Russell Shepherd. Loston had previously said Clemson was a big leader and he was prepared to commit but his mother wanted him to wait on a decision until he could visit the schools so he would have some things to compare.

Defensive back Craig Loston (6-3 210) of Aldine, TX made an unofficial visit to Clemson over the weekend with his mother and will have a decision between the Tigers and LSU this week. "We told coach Napier we'd give himi a call by Wednesday with a decision," Loston's mother said Sunday afternoon shortly after returning home. "He's been to LSU several times so he'll base the decision on what he already knows and what he saw at Clemson. He liked the players and the coaches. We liked every minute of it. We met with coach Bowden this morning before we left, yesterday after the game and the first thing Friday morning when we arrived. We thought it was nice. The people were very hospitable." Loston has been favoring Clemson thru the process and had said he wanted to commit a while back but his mother wanted him to hold off on a decision until he had visited the school. Loston has more than 20 offers.

From the LSU site. Loston says he will verbal close to the start of his senior season. He gives the slight edge to Clemson right now, but plans to visit LSU, Miami, USC, and Oregon (his final 5) before making a choice.

ESPN 150 Watch List safety
Dwight D. Eisenhower (Aldine, Texas)

The Eisenhower High School football program has a true triple threat in Craig Loston. This talented safety, wide receiver and return specialist does everything except sell hot dogs on Friday nights in Aldine, Texas.

Last season he made his mark defensively, tallying 67 solo tackles and 23 assists. In terms of pass coverage, he had three interceptions and 11 breakups. Loston didn't stop there, however. Offensively, he accumulated 847 yards receiving and a remarkable 31.7 yards per catch.

His talents and ambitions go beyond the gridiron.

"I'm just as proud of my 3.0 grade point average as I am my accomplishments as a football player," Loston said.

"I want to attend a college that has a good pre-med program."

Texas Safety Chooses Clemson
By Phil Kornblut

Clemson won the recruiting battle against defending National Champion LSU for DB Craig Loston (6-3 210) of Aldine, TX. Loston committed to Clemson Wednesday. "I just feel like that is where I want to be," Loston said. "I feel at home at Clemson. I know I will get a chance to play early. It was the perfect time. I was just tired of everything. I was ready to get it over." Loston said he will take other visits but is firm with his commitment. "I think Clemson is going to be my final destination," Loston said. Loston is regarded as one of the top safeties in the country. Last season he had 68 tackles and three interceptions, and he scored four touchdowns on returns. He's the seventh commitment for the Tigers' 2009 class and he plans to enroll in January.

ESPN - Top-flight '09 safeties a versatile bunch - Football Recruiting

Quote:
It's tough to find more of a triple-threat athlete than Craig Loston (Houston, Texas/Eisenhower). The future Clemson Tiger -- who has excelled as a defensive back, wideout and return specialist -- tops the list of safeties for the 2009 class. Loston has great leaping ability and the soft hands to bring down the interception. Loston has great body control and change-of-direction ability. He, like most of the safeties in this class, isn't afraid to give up his body to make a hit.
