Georgia Junior Holds Early Clemson Offer
By Phil Kornblut
Clemson and Georgia have wasted no time in jumping in on junior DL Jeffrey Whitaker (6-4 300) of Warner Robins, GA. The Tigers and Bulldog have offered, and he likes both. "Clemson is home away from home," Whitaker said. "If I go there, I'll feel at home leaving home. I'm not from Athens, so I would have to start over up there. It would be the same at Clemson. Georgia is home. It's a good vibe. They have good people. Their coaches are laid back and cool." Whitaker camped this summer at Clemson and he made a recent unofficial visit to Georgia. Whitaker said he prefers the SEC and the ACC but wants to look at other schools, like Notre Dame.

Jeffrey Whitaker, one of the country’s top 2010 prospects at defensive tackle, said he plans to go to Tennessee over UGA on his next unofficial visit.
The Warner Robins junior said he was invited to both SEC campuses for Junior Day on Feb. 28.
“I want to check out Tennessee,” Whitaker said. “At first, I planned to go to Georgia. But then, I thought about it … I’ve been there [Georgia] so many times … I should probably see some other schools. I was at Georgia last year for Junior Day, so I know how they operate.”
Whitaker said he hasn’t had much contact with Georgia since January. “It has been a minute. I haven’t talked to them too much. But that’s not much of anything. I know what Georgia has to offer. I’ve been up there so many times, I know all about Georgia.”
Whitaker, who has nearly 15 offers, laughed when asked about rumors he had committed early to both Georgia and North Carolina. “I heard about that, too … but none of it is true. I’m wide open.”

DL Jeffrey Whitaker (6-3 313) of Warner Robins, GA has 17 total offers but says he is in no hurry to commit or name a favorite. "This is a lifetime decision," he said. "I don't know how people can make it in two months. It's going to affect the rest of my life. Once I commit, shoot, that's it. I'm done." Whitaker has offers from USC, Clemson, Alabama, FSU, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech,Tennessee, California, and Minnesota among others. He says he has taken visits to Georgia and Auburn and plans more visits sometime in July. Whitaker has not decided where he will visit. He is looking for a school that will benefit him in many ways. "I want a good chemistry with my coach," said Whitaker. "I want to know he is going to make me better. No matter what people write about me, I know I've got a lot of improving to do." He aslo says he wants to surround himself with "good people". "If you surround yourself with the right people, that'll make you a better person." Whitaker had 40 tackles with 15 for loss as a junior.
