Gabe King says he tries to pattern himself after two outstanding professional defensive linemen--Julius Peppers and Michael Strahan. If he keeps improving at this pace, there's a chance he could have a great career at the next level, just like his two favorite players.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound strongside defensive end is out of Page (Greensboro, N.C.), and already has been noticed by some of the premier college football programs in the nation. Georgia offered last fall, and North Carolina, Duke and N.C. State are just some of the other schools that are pursuing the junior.

"Duke sent me my first offer on Sept. 1; it was a laminated copy," King told Sporting News Today. "I was so completely shocked. I wasn't expected that. I'd been told by players and coaches that it would happen to me, but I just didn't know it would happen so soon. I just could do anything but thank God."

King--who actually played high school football in Aiken, S.C. before moving to Greensboro--watched at N.C. State, North Carolina and Georgia quickly followed Duke. He said for awhile it seemed like he was getting one offer a week during the fall.

King has offers from Alabama, California, Clemson, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, Wake Forest and West Virginia and others.

He seems to have the Tar Heels and California at the top of his list now, with UNC moving up after ace recruiter John Blake became more involved, according to a source close to the situation.
