Tribune Blogs -- The recruiting trail
Quote:
One big-time football recruit who is not at the All Poly Camp at Bountiful High this week is Kyle Van Noy, a linebacker from McQueen High in Reno, Nev.
Van Noy, a four-star recruit according to Scout.com, was at last Saturday's Nike Training Camp at BYU and talked a little about how his recruitment is going. Van Noy is LDS but said he more than likely will not go on an LDS Church mission.
The 6-foot-4, 202-pound rising senior said he has offers from BYU, Arizona State, Stanford, Oregon, San Diego State, Cal, Nevada, UNLV, Boise State and Colorado.
Does BYU have a shot at landing him?
"Yeah, definitely," he said. "They are in my top three, along with Arizona State and Oregon."
Van Noy said he probably won't decide until around the Christmas break. He said BYU didn't ask him to commit over the weekend, "but I think they wanted me to."
Although Van Noy worked out with the receivers at Saturday's shindig, he expects to play outside linebacker in college. He plays both positions for McQueen, which started its summer football training on Monday, a factor that prohibited Van Noy from returning for BYU's padded camp or the All Poly Camp.

Quote:
On the recruiting front, Van Noy has already visited Colorado and will check out BYU (Jan. 9) and Arizona State (Jan. 16).
"I just started hearing from LSU," Van Noy said. "They have been calling my coach, so I'm not sure how interested they are. I do want to take all five of my trips and I'm looking to set up visits with UCLA and Boise State but right now, I'm really trying to focus on our season.
"My main goal is to get back to the state championship this year. We lost in the finals last year, so it would be great to finish off my senior year with a state title. Once our season is over, I'll turn my attention back to recruiting and try and set up my last couple of visits.
"Right now, BYU and ASU are my top two schools. My plan is to take all my visits and then commit sometime shortly after my last trip. I don't think I'll wait until signing day, but with my last trip in mid-January, it will probably end up being a few weeks before then."

From the ASU site. Arizona State and BYU lead for Van Noy, who says being close to family will be important. He will take trips to BYU, UCLA, and perhaps Oregon State or Boise State before making a choice.

From the BYU site. Committed to BYU. Van Noy says he actually gave his verbal months ago, but wanted to wait until he took a few visits to make it public.

Cougarblue - BREAKING NEWS: Van Noy hit with DUI charge, won't enroll at BYU this fall
Quote:
BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced on Wednesday afternoon that Kyle Van Noy, a four-star linebacker recruit from Nevada, won't be reporting to fall camp in August because of a DUI charge.
In a media conference at LaVell Edwards Stadium, Mendenhall read a letter of apology from Van Noy and indicated the star recruit will wait until January of 2010 to enroll at BYU, provided he has taken care of the legal and ecclesiastical endorsement issues that result from the DUI.
Van Noy was expected to compete for a spot at outside linebacker at BYU in the fall.
