USC and Clemson are taking a look at LB Daniel Mack (6-1 198) of Miami. "I'm hearing a lot from Clemson and I was invited to their junior day," Mack said. "They've requested a highlight tape and they said they would get back to me. South Carolina also invited me for junior day and asked for a highlight tape. They tapes have been sent. They plan to get back in touch." Mack has offers from Ole Miss, Eastern Illinois, Florida International and Liberty. Last season Mack had 120 tackles, eight sacks and two interceptions. He also rushed for 400 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also plays safety and running back. He plans to graduate in December.

Clemson is the newest major offer for LB Daniel Mack (6-1 198) of Miami. "They offered me a week or so ago," Mack said. "They offered verbaly and the written offer should be on the way. Coach Blackwell offered. He told me they are very interested in me on both sides of the ball, but mainly on defense. It feels good to get that offer. It's a great program and they recruit some of the best athletes in the nation." Mack also has offers from Ole Miss, Central Florida, Eastern Illinois, Florida International and Liberty. He's been receiving mail from USC and also is hearing from Southern Cal, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Wake Forest and Florida. He plans to visit Clemson, Central Florida and Ole Miss in the coming weeks. "I really like Clemson but I'm kind of in the middle with everything," Mack said. "It's all hitting me at once."

Having the opportunity to watch so many football players throughout the course of a year during the football season, you tend to come up with athlete who many will not find until the off-season combine tour arrives in the spring.

Here is a football player we had the pleasure of seeing for the first time during his sophomores season, watching Dade Christian during an unbeaten regular season, and deep into the playoffs.

Today, IN THE HUDDLE heads back to south Florida, where like the rest of the state, will one again be a hotbed for football talent during the 2008 season.

IN THE HUDDLE has taken you to practice sessions in Callahan, pre-game workouts in Freeport, and camps and combines from Osprey to the Miami area, where Mack and his teammates will once again go after a spot in the 1A state finals in 2008.

SCOUTING MACK: Having watched this talented football player in game action twice over the past year, there is little doubt that his athletic ability pushes him toward the top, and his skill level, gives him an opportunity to be one of the best in the state for the 2008 season.

While looking at him and proclaiming that he is a safety is the canned response that many “amateur” recruiting analysts would say because of his size, but very much like University of Miami freshman Sean Spence, this is a smart football player who makes plays all over the field.

At a time when he is getting stronger and bigger, his speed, knowledge of the game and ability to read offenses is the reason why he was part of 70 percent of the Crusaders’ plays last season, often initiating or helping to make a play.

He plays the run extremely well; cutting through blocks and keeping his head up and pointed toward the play. His athletic ability and overall strength gives him a huge advantage. He also anticipates so well, which gives him another major advantage over other linebackers who rely on strength and size - alone!

The most amazing part of his abilities at the linebacker position revolve around his knack of dropping into pass coverage, and while some backs get the best of him, it doesn’t happen too often. As he picks up coverage packages, he will get better and better, and those who get by him at some combine skills drill, will NOT do it in game conditions, where he steps his game up - in a major way!

MACK‘S MEMORIES: In a year where there were some impressive seniors on the Dade Christian team, Mack found a way to rise above with 140 tackles, 6 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries.

In addition to what he has accomplished on the football field, this gifted athlete also gets it done for the track team where he runs the 100, 200 and is part of the 4x100 relay team.

At the end of his sophomore year, at the MSLSports.net Combine, he was singled out as one of the top players to watch for in the future at a time when nobody had yet heard about him. He was there with a pair of 2008 standouts Shawn Abuhoff and Chris Cunningham. If you’ve viewed our many evaluations, that is something that we have made a reputation on: finding the hidden gems!

WHAT THE COLLEGE RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: “Finding a player like Daniel is not someone you will discover at a combine or at a junior day. LB Daniel Mack (6-1 198) of Miami has picked up more offers in recent weeks including one from USC. "They want to pick up two or three linebackers and I'm one of their targets," Mack said of the Gamecocks. Clemson was one of his earlier offers and Mack said he hears a lot from the Tigers. "I talk to coach Blackwell weekly, and I've also talked to coach Bowden," Mack said. "I talked to the whole coaching staff two weeks ago. They passed the phone around and everybody talked to me." Mack said he will visit USC and Clemson in early July. He also plans to visit Georgia, Florida and Florida State. "I'm letting everybody come in and I'm evaluating everyone," he said. "I can say I really like Carolina and Clemson. I wouldn't mind playing for either one. I like those two schools." Mack also has offers from Ole Miss, Eastern Illinois, Florida International, Liberty, Central Florida, Purdue, Wisconsin and Auburn. He plans to graduate in December.

The most highly recruited, though, will be a part of Dade Christian's 2009 class in linebacker/running back Daniel Mack. The 6-foot, 195-pound prospect has upward of a dozen offers. Clemson, South Carolina, UCF, Auburn, Rutgers, South Florida and Iowa State all like what they saw from Mack as a linebacker when he racked up 109 tackles, 2 INTs and six sacks en route to All-Dade first-team honors. This season, with the loss of its starting backfield -- including leading rusher Kenny McKenzie (Colgate signee) -- Mack will see playing time both ways.

LB Daniel Mack (6-0 198) of Miami is taking things a little easy this summer. He's not attending any camps as a participant. He might go to Florida's Friday Night Lights camp as an observer. USC and Clemson are among his offers and he's gotten fresh letters from his respective recruiters, Robert Gillespie and David Blackwell. He plans to visit both schools between June 30th and July 6th while in the state visiting family in Holly Hill. Both recruiters visited Mack during spring practice. His only other planned visits this summer are to South Florida and Central Florida. He does not have favorites. "I'm evaluating everybody," he said. Some of his other offers are Ole Miss, Purdue, Wisconsin, Auburn, West Virginia, Boston College and Florida.

LB Daniel Mack (6-0 198) of Miami, FL has narrowed his list to five. He has Clemson, Boston College, Wake Forest, UCF, and Liberty. This summer, he visited Clemson and liked what he saw. "They have really nice facilities and the players and coaches treated me well." Mack, who plays on both sides of the ball, says that different schools are recruiting him for different positions. Clemson has approved him for a scholarship on both offense and defense. "They have me approved both ways but I think their plan for me is at outside linebacker." He also visited UCF this past spring and really liked the new stadium and facilities. "It was pretty cool, I have to admit." Mack plans to take his official visit to Clemson in January and hopes to commit to his school of choice a week after his final visit. He had initially planned to graduate in December but has since changed his mind. "I decided I needed more time to choose the right school for me." Mack runs a 4.5 40 and has not named a leader.
