Will Georgia offer Lassiter's Lutzenkirchen? | Football recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Auburn, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Stanford and Troy have each extended scholarship offers to Lassiter junior tight end/linebacker Philip Lutzenkirchen
“As for a front-runner, I really like Auburn and Georgia Tech,” the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Lutzenkirchen said.
He’s anxious to see if Clemson and Georgia will offer.
“I was up there in Athens this past Friday and went to Clemson on Saturday,” he said. “I really enjoyed Clemson. I’m hoping they’ll offer. That’s one of my top schools.
“As for Georgia, I know they didn’t get the tight end they wanted in the class of 2008. I think they’ll offer a tight end, but I don’t know if it will be me. I’m getting a pretty good vibe, but don’t really know if they’ll offer because of their lack of scholarships.”
Lutzenkirchen, who plans to attend upcoming junior days at Auburn and Vanderbilt, is debating whether to travel to Miami in April.
“I know Miami has wanted me to come down there,” he said. “I might go down there during my spring break, but I’m just not sure.”
Lutzenkirchen is being recruited by Tech as an athlete.
“[Tech assistant] coach [Brian] Bohannon is a good guy,” he said. “He and I have a very good relationship.
“And coach [Paul] Johnson is an all-around good guy. He’s easy to talk to. He’s not stubborn or arrogant like you’d think some coaches would be. I went down their last Thursday [for the Tech-Clemson basketball game] and we talked about 25 minutes.”

From the GT site. Philip says GT and Auburn are his top two. Academics are important, and he would like to stay within 3-4 hours from home.

Lassiter TE visits Auburn twice in span of five days | Football recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Lassiter tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen attended Auburn’s spring game on Saturday. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound junior was so impressed he decided to take another tour of Auburn’s campus today.
“I was just down here on Saturday,” Lutzenkirchen said by phone Wednesday evening. “I decided to come back.”
Highlights of the visits included spending about 15 minutes chatting with Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville.
“I love this place,” Lutzenkirchen said. “The atmosphere is great. I really like the campus and everything about the football tradition and they have good academics.
“I really like it down here.”
Lutzenkirchen was impressed with the fan support he witnessed at Auburn’s spring game last weekend.
“I’d say there were about 40,000 people there,” he said. “Even on the short plays, the crowd was going wild. They’ve got a good fan base.”
Lutzenkirchen, who holds scholarship offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Stanford and Troy, is leaning toward the Tigers and Jackets.
“But I really haven’t made any decision yet,” he said. “I really like Georgia Tech too.”
Lutzenkirchen is scheduled to visit Virginia Tech on Friday before attending Clemson’s spring game the following day.

From the FSU site. Florida State has offered, and Phillip says he is excited that they did. He says that Auburn stands out, and that academics are priority #1.

Lassiter’s Philip Lutzenkirchen received a pleasant surprise on Thursday when he picked up the phone and called the Florida State coaching staff.
“They offered me even though I hadn’t received one letter from them,” the 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end/linebacker said. “It was kind of out of the blue.
“I haven’t even visited there. I’ll probably visit them sometime this summer.”
Lutzenkirchen, who already had scholarship offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Stanford and Troy, said he’ll settle on a school by June.
“I like Auburn a lot, but I’m still open to everything,” he said. “My dad really wants me to go out to California, not this weekend but the following weekend, to visit Stanford and California.”
On who is recruiting him the hardest: “Georgia Tech,” he said. “I get a lot of letters from them. Stanford is recruiting me hard too. And FSU has started e-mailing me a lot. I talked to Auburn today on the phone. They really like me.”
On his best visit this spring: “I liked Auburn and liked meeting all the coaches at Georgia Tech,” he said. “And I really like Auburn’s campus. It is really pretty.”

Lassiter TE receives offer from Clemson | College recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Clemson has jumped on the Philip Lutzenkirchen recruiting bandwagon.
“I received an offer from Clemson [on Tuesday],” the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Lutzenkirchen said earlier today. “I’ve been talking to them since the beginning of the past football season.
“I’ve always thought their program is awesome. I’ve made two visits to Clemson, one to a game last year and to junior day.”
Clemson joins Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Stanford and Troy as programs that have offered a scholarship to the talented Lassiter tight end.
“Auburn is still my front-runner,” he said.
Expect a commitment from Lutzenkirchen during the month of May.
“I plan to commit after spring practice,” he said.

Lassiter TE chooses Auburn | College recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Lassiter tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen committed to Auburn Friday evening. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound junior chose Auburn over Clemson and Stanford.
“It came down to Auburn and Clemson,” Lutzenkirchen told Inside the Auburn Tigers. “Stanford was in it, but distance became a factor.
“The main reason I liked Clemson was because of the lake. We’ve got a lake house up there. When I kind of factored everything in that was the only reason. The coaches and everything were nice, the facilities were nice, but the main factor was the lake.
“I met the coaches down at Auburn and they’re just awesome. I felt at home.”

Auburn recruit Lutzenkirchen exploring options after Franklin's release | College recruiting | ajc.com
Quote:
Tony Franklin has fallen out of favor with Auburn. The Tigers may be doing the same with Lassiter’s Philip Lutzenkirchen.
Lutzenkirchen, a 6-foot-4, 240 pound tight end, has been loyal to the Tigers through and through until the past week, when Franklin was fired as Auburn’s offensive coordinator. He indicated via text message Wednesday that he will now explore his options until the Tigers fill the position.
The Trojans senior has attended virtually every Auburn home game and familiarized himself with campus life during the recruiting period. He wasn’t planning on taking an official visit until the week of bowl preparation later in the season.
Lutzenkirchen said he will now visit other schools. That list could include Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Miami (Fla.), Florida State and Oklahoma. Lutzenkirchen is a member of the AJC’s The Georgia 150.
He is the No. 9 tight end prospect in the nation by Scout and No. 5 prospect by Rivals. Lassiter runs a version of the spread offense that is similar to the one Franklin was running at Auburn. The transition would have been a smooth one for the versatile tight end.

USC Now An Interest Of Lutzenkirchen
By Phil Kornblut
TE Philip Lutzenkirchen (6-4 240) of Marietta, GA has been committed to Auburn since May, but that committment was shaken by the dismissal of offensive coordinator Tony Franklin a few weeks ago. He's still committed to the Tigers but he is looking at other possibilities, and USC is one of them. "They want me to come in for a visit," Lutzenkirchen said. "I'm looking for a weekend to visit there. Auburn? Until they hire a new offensive coordinator and I can sit down with him and see what he's all about, I'm going to continue to look around." Lutzenkirchen said he might make it in for USC's game this week against Arkansas. He's also looking at Florida, Florida State and Tennessee. Clemson was an early offer back in the spring but he said the Tigers' are not on his list. Thru nine games, Lutzenkirchen has 52 catches for 750 yards and 5 touchdowns.

TE Philip Lutzenkirchen (6-4 240) has decided to take two more official visits. He is going to Alabama on the January 17th and Tennessee a week later. Lutzenkirchen says that Clemson tried to get involved with him back in December with the new coaching staff, but by then he had ruled them out. "They talked to me last May and then I didn't hear from them again until December," he said. "By then, it was too late." Lutzenkirchen is committed to Auburn but says it might be considered a soft commit. He says he is still leaning towards Auburn but will give the other two schools a chance. "I'm pretty much wide open right now," he added. Lutzenkirchen says these are the only three schools he is considering.

The recruiting drama is over with Lassiter’s Philip Lutzenkirchen, who is back where he started with a commitment to Auburn.
Lutzenkirchen say down with new Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn last weekend. It was an unofficial visit just to watch film, but apparently, Lutzenkirchen saw enough to reaffirm his commitment to the Tigers.
He indicated via text message Monday night that he will remain with Auburn and cancel plans for official visits to Tennessee and Alabama.
