Dacula’s Battle likely to commit in July
Dacula safety/running back Khiry Battle is ready for the recruiting process to conclude.
“I saw what Caleb King went through last year,” said Battle, a transfer from Greater Atlanta Christian, said, “and it seemed pretty stressful. I don’t want to go through that.”
King received more than 60 offers and faced constant scrutiny, before committing to Georgia in November.
Battle, who has 15 scholarship offers, plans on committing later this month. Northwestern is the latest school to extend an offer to the 6-1, 205-pound senior.
Battle’s older brother Deante Battle is an All-Big Ten defensive back at Northwestern.
Khiry Battle says Indiana, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Arkansas, Northwestern and North Carolina State are at the top of his list.
He’s trying to squeeze in visits to Michigan State, Arkansas, Central Florida, North Carolina State and Kentucky before making his decision.
While most schools are projecting Battle as a defensive back in college, some programs-North Carolina State, Central Florida, Eastern Michigan and East Carolina-see him as a running back.
“It doesn’t matter,” Battle said. “I’ll play whatever position that gets me on the field the quickest.”

Battle dazzled by Central Florida
Central Florida coach George O’Leary’s rising program made a strong impression on Dacula safety Khiry Battle.
“Their facilities are top notch,” said Battle, who returned from Orlando Monday evening. “They compare with any of the SEC schools that I’ve seen. They’ve got a new stadium and their dorms are unbelievable.”
Battle will try to squeeze in visits to Arkansas, Kentucky, Michigan State and possibly Georgia Tech this month, before making his final decision.

WholeHogSports.com - THE RECRUITING GUY : Battle starting over with new UA staff

Quote:
Battle, 6-1, 210 pounds, 4. 55 seconds in the 40-yard dash, made an official visit to Oxford, Miss., last weekend and will arrive in Fayetteville on Friday to start his visit with the Hogs.

“I committed to Coach Nutt when he was at Arkansas and the coaching staff ended up at Ole Miss, so that became a better situation as far as chances for me going to Ole Miss,” Battle said.

Battle said the coach-player relationship is very important to him.

“It will basically boil down to the coaching staff,” said Battle, who recorded 49 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble, 2 pass breakups and 1 interception this season. “When Coach [Bobby ] Petrino got [to Arkansas ], the whole recruiting process started over for Arkansas. I’m trying to get to know the coaches and get to know the running backs coach.” A positive for the Razorbacks is that quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee coached at Northwestern, where Battle’s brother, Deante, just finished his career.

Battle has said Arkansas is recruiting him as a running back, and it appears Ole Miss is doing the same after he told Rebels assistant Chris Vaughn he felt running back was a more natural fit for him.

Battle will visit Georgia Tech or Central Florida next weekend.

Dacula star pledges to Petrino | Football recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Khiry Battle is officially off the fence. The Dacula running back signed with Arkansas late Wednesday, fulfilling his commitment to the Razorbacks despite the departure of coach Houston Nutt.

Battle was strongly considering an offer from Ole Miss, where Nutt is now the head coach. Dacula coach Kevin Maloof said Battle was “torn” over the decision and did not sign at school this morning as planned.

But he later attended a ceremony at the ESPN Zone in Buckhead, and is now listed as a signee on Arkansas’s athletics Web site.

Battle could not be reached for comment.
