Miramar's Smith a championship QB -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

Quote:
Miramar's Eugene Smith, one of the best quarterbacks in the country, finally led his team to a championship July 12at the Nike South Florida 7-on-7 Football Challenge.

Smith helped guide Miramar to the title in his home city after near misses at USF and at the Heath Evans event in West Palm Beach.

"It feels good we got over the hump," Smith said. "We had been to a couple of championships, but didn't win when we were supposed to win, so it feels good we won this one."

Smith (6 feet 3, 185 pounds) looked great, showing off his laser arm and the ability to read plays as they develop. He throws into space better than some college quarterbacks and possesses excellent composure.

"Early, I came out sluggish and wasn't working on my mechanics," Smith said. "As the day progressed, I got better and better and eventually I had a great day."
Quote:
Smith announced a top five of Auburn, Boston College, Michigan, Florida State and LSU in May, but has since backed off.

"I had five, but it was just too hard for me to leave it at five," Smith said. "I renege on my top five and am back to being wide open. There are probably 10-20 schools that I am going to evaluate."

Smith lists a number of factors in his decision, including "playing time, good education, good coaching staff and a coach that is going to be there throughout my years that I am there, great fan support and good facilities."
