Hauptmann is a strong offensive lineman that is a solid guard. He has good size and can be a superb lineman with some technique work. His 325 pound bench press shows by the way he can move defensive linemen off the line of scrimmage. Even though he plays high at times, he demonstrates tremendous upper body strength. Could have even more success by playing with better leverage and rolling hips on contact. Quick feet on the down block; does a good job of getting inside position on defender. Good mobility shown when trapping and pulling; displays balance and agility. Does a good job of logging if defender tries to wrong arm the trap. Very productive when double teaming; fits into block and drives legs creating movement. Athletic getting into level two linebacker; slips through the garbage to zero in on backer. Needs to keep a good base in order to sustain block. Solid pass protector that uses hands to stop the initial charge of the pass rusher. Better extension after blow delivery would allow him greater leverage on the defender. Moves feet well but needs to anchor down a bit more in order to maintain body control. Hauptmann has excellent physical tools and simply needs to play lower and be technically sound.
