OWATONNA — Casey Dehn is heading back to his home state.

Dehn told the People’s Press on Friday in a text message that he has verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to play football. He was not immediately available for comment.

The Owatonna senior-to-be was offered a full scholarship to play at the University of Minnesota last week, but declined to make a decision until after he attended a camp at Wisconsin on June 22-24.

A 6-foot-6, 250-pound offensive lineman, Dehn was a powerful force for the Owatonna football team last season. He started all 11 games at right tackle and was the lead blocker on a majority of the Huskies’ running plays.

Dehn’s family is deeply rooted in the Badger State. His older sister Samantha and older brother Rob both throw for the Wisconsin track and field team and his father Bill played basketball at Wisconsin-Oshkosh for four years.

Dehn said last week he would like to throw wherever he goes to college. Earlier this month, he won gold medals at the Class 2A State Track & Field Meet in both the discus and shot put. He was the first Owatonna athlete to win two state titles in one year in more than 50 years.
