THE SCRUGGS REPORT
NAME: Lamar Scruggs
SCHOOL: Fletcher
CITY: Neptune Beach
POSITION: WR
HEIGHT: 6-3
WEIGHT: 210
40 TIME: 4.52 (Reported)
HEAD COACH: Joe Reynolds
SCOUTING SCRUGGS: The first thing you notice when watching this young man play is the way he creates separation. That is something that even the quickest football players have trouble doing sometimes. Remember, it's all about football! He has the size, tremendous hands and athletic ability to create mismatches in the secondary.
College coaches love the way a big receiver can use his body and skill level to make plays. This is easily one of the top receivers we saw last year as a junior, and with the way he has grown and matured, this is a football talent that will only get better. He has to be considered as one of the best in Florida.
When you watch and evaluate football talent, there are many things to take into consideration. One of those is the competition level. That is something that many people often overlook. Watching Lamar three times over the past year, he has proven that no matter who it is that he is lined up against, he gets the job done. His quick burst of speed off the line, surprising strength and knack of going up and getting the ball in traffic are qualities that nobody can ignore.
Lamar Scruggs is going to continue getting better, and no matter where he ends up in the future, make no mistake that this is going to be a very special football player for years to come.
SCRUGGS SPOTLIGHT: Caught 23 balls for 567 yards and 7 touchdowns last season for the Senators. He is also one of the top track performers in the Jacksonville area.
WHAT THE COLLEGE RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: "Last year when Fletcher played a very good Niceville team, I had the chance to watch Lamar. By the end of the game, there wasn't a better football player on the field. He has the chance to be very special."
HIS BAGS ARE PACKED: Take your pick. Everyone from Arkansas to FAU, FIU, USF, FSU, UCF, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Clemson and Illinois have offered with another 10-15 schools waiting to do the same thing.
