IN THE HUDDLE 2009: Denard Robinson
While some people choose to ignore underclassmen, focusing in on the current senior class, we have always believed that being able to identify as much talent - as early as possible - is a positive when it comes to recruiting.
When this talented youngster was just a sophomore, we watched as he matured and led the Bucks into the playoffs. This past season, he backed up what we saw when he was in the 10th grade by leading his team to the region finals against No. 1 rated Miami Northwestern.
Today, IN THE HUDDLE brings you back to Broward County for a look at one of the state’s premier athletic quarterbacks. One that has already set the table for his final year with a huge win over previously unbeaten North Miami Beach and down-to-the-wire effort against the nation’s No. 1 rated Bulls.
IN THE HUDDLE has taken you to practice sessions in Interlachen, pre-game workouts in Sarasota, and camps and combines from Quincy to Deerfield Beach in Broward County, where Robinson and his teammates have payback on their minds for the 2008 season.
THE ROBINSON REPORT
NAME: Denard Robinson
SCHOOL: Deerfield Beach
CITY: Deerfield Beach
POSITION: QB
HEIGHT: 6-0.5
WEIGHT: 190
40 TIME: 4.65 (Reported)
HEAD COACH: Art Taylor
SCOUTING ROBINSON: Make no mistake, while this is not your best running quarterback in the state, he is very elusive and tough to bring down. As a passer, he doesn’t have that arm strength many are searching for, but he still managed to be the second total offense leader in Broward County.
Robinson is a winner. Not only that, but his talent level, will to succeed and drive may make him one of the most complete “roll-out quarterbacks” in Florida for the 2008 season.
The win against St. Thomas showed just how valuable he can be - with his legs - as well as an arm that seemed to find a target on nearly every down toward the end of the game.
This is a clutch player who knows how to run an offense. He is what many refer to as an efficient quarterback. One who knows how to blend a solid running game with accurate passing game. Having watched him in many games, his overall athletic ability is something that opponents must respect, and that is something that was evident in the state playoffs this past season.
ROBINSON RAVES: Participates in the track program (100 meters) as well where several of his offensive threats also are also members. Was also among the total offensive leaders this past season with 1,965 yards and 19 touchdowns passing. He also accounted for 400 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
WHAT THE COLLEGE RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: “I came down to watch him against St. Thomas Aquinas and then again in the region final contest against Miami Northwestern. How could you not be sold on a kid who will win plenty in his young life!”
HIS BAGS ARE PACKED: Schools such as UCF, USF, Auburn and several others have already started to look and scout this impressive athlete a lot closer.
