IN THE HUDDLE 2009: Dontae Aycock

THE AYCOCK REPORT
NAME: Dontae Aycock
SCHOOL: Tampa
CITY: Chamberlain
POSITION: QB
HEIGHT: 5-10
WEIGHT: 200
40 TIME: 4.53 (Reported)
HEAD COACH: Billy Turner

SCOUTING AYCOCK: First of all, his strength as a runner is quite impressive. From the moment he gets his hands on the ball, this is just another running back prospect who happens to know how to read defenses and gets into space quickly. Back in the day, when teams ran a Wishbone or Veer attack, this is the kind of quarterback that made an impact.

Much like a quality running back, he controls the flow of the play with his instinctive running skills and speed to get outside and turn the corner. He also has the power and strength to run tackle-to-tackle as well.

Even from the Spread Formation, he is also very impressive, reading the defense and giving himself an option whether to run the ball or throw.

For someone who is run-oriented, you have to be pleased with his mechanics as a passing quarterback. While his throwing motion is somewhat different than most, he does get the ball there with a nice touch on it. He doesn't have a huge arm, but because he has the respect of defenses because of his legs, he is often on target with very little pressure on him.

Taking nothing away from his passing skills, it's possible that quarterback not be Aycock's position at the next level. This young man is a quality runner who makes cuts, has instincts and pulls away like great running backs can. He is one of the top high school players in the state for the Class of 2009.

AYCOCK ACCOLADES: This impressive athlete not only gets it done with his arm, where he passed for 950 yards (65 of 162) and 5 touchdowns, but he ran for 1,110 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Chiefs on 155 carries.

WHAT THE COLLEGE RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: "All I had to do is watch him play once to be sold on what he can do to help a team win. Anyone with speed and durability like he has will make it to the next level – with no problem. He is a classic run/pass quarterback who leads by example!"

HIS BAGS ARE PACKED: If you remember back to this year's Orange Bowl, one of the teams that would welcome a quarterback like this is Kansas. The Jayhawks were one of the first teams to offer. But Duke (impressive grades) and USF have also shown interest.
