High school football

Several of the area's top players were among the nearly 300 athletes who competed Wednesday in the 11th Annual National High School All-Star Combine at the Browns' training facility in Berea.

Harvey wide receiver Chris Fields showed why he is considered one of the state's top prospects. The 6-foot, 181-pounder ran the fastest time in the 40-yard dash (4.39 seconds), posted the top score in the broad jump (10 feet) and also recorded a 36-inch vertical jump and performed 11 repetitions of 185 pounds on the bench press.

"I just wanted to come out and compete and see how I do," Fields said.
Fields, who already has scholarship offers from Akron and Illinois, added an offer from Kansas to his collection earlier this week.

"It's always a good thing," Fields said of the offer from Kansas. "It's getting better as it goes. It's my first Big 12 offer. That's exciting because my former teammate Jeff Spikes plays at Kansas, and it would be good to take a visit to see Jeff."

Fields and his parents visited Ohio State last weekend when the Buckeyes hosted Indiana in basketball.

"The basketball game was a great experience," he said. "It was nice to see the court and the environment. I was up waving my Ohio State towel, and even though we lost, it was a good experience."
