Buckner has been offered a scholarship by Colorado and expects offers from Illinois and Minnesota. He also has drawn interest from LSU, Wisconsin and Michigan. He wants to stay in the Big Ten. If he had to make a choice today, he said he would choose Illinois. But he hopes LSU and Michigan will offer.

The 6-2, 320-pound defensive linemen, who has been timed in 4.9 seconds for 40 yards, impressed coaches at the U.S. Army's junior combine in San Antonio this month.

''I didn't think it would be so easy, but it was easier than I thought,'' Buckner said after being tested against some of the top players in the country. ''It wasn't as much of a challenge as I thought. They couldn't block me. I made moves on them, and they couldn't handle me. I came away thinking I can play with anybody, that I can be in the game next year.''
