You aren't the second best player on powerhouse Madison Memorial, when you are a freshman, unless you've got game. I think many have rationalized Maymon isn't Badger scholarship worthy because: 1. he reportedly has grade problems and possibly wouldn't qualify anyway, and 2. we have a legitimate shot at a few comparable wings in the same class who our staff has shown interest.
Like his coach said, the primary reason he plays like an interior player for Madison Memorial, is because he's their biggest player this year, and was their 2nd biggest last year. Not comparing Maymon to Vince Carter, but he played like an interior player for North Carolina, because that's the role they desired him to play. Maymon certainly has the laterally quickness to guard opposing 3's. Offensively, that same quickness applies to penetrate on defenders if necessary, and he has a decent handle. Plus he started exhibiting an outside shot in AAU ball this summer, translating the great touch he's always possessed, to further away from the basket. He has the perimeter skills required to be successful on the next level. Maymon was an advanced basketball player early because he was skilled and had a good feel for the game, not because he was physically too dominant for the opponent ala Marquis Mason.
