Maryland Offers Local Defensive End - Josh Barr's Recruiting Insider

Forestville Coach Charles Harley reports that junior defensive end DeOnte Arnett picked up his first scholarship offer yesterday, from Maryland. Arnett had 63 tackles and 15 sacks this past season. Harley expects that Arnett will receive more offers soon, with Virginia, North Carolina State, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Colorado all very interested in Arnett.

From O&B News...has offers from Maryland, Penn State, Virginia and Syracuse. Academics and location will play big factors. Coach Locksley visited his school and he does have family in Chicago.

From BWI...his coach says he is blowing up and has picked up offers from Illinois, Tennessee, Syracuse, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina State and Penn State. Will take a summer tour of schools and has been in contact with LJ Sr.

From the Pitt site...has offers from Maryland, Virginia, Pitt, Penn State, Tennessee, Syracuse, NC State, Illinois, Rutgers and Boston College and his coach things VT and Miami could be close. His coach talks about the military school DeOnte' attends and talks the Pitt staff's contact with his player.

From the OSU site...talks about receiving the Ohio State offer. Plans on making some visits this summer and would like to visit Ohio State. Does not claim any top schools at this point.

Really like this kid's focus in the classroom as well...

Let's start with Forestville's DeOnte' Arnett, who has whittle his list to five final choices, according to Knights Coach Charles Harley: Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State and Cincinnati.

Arnett, a 6-4, 247-pound defensive end, plans to visit all five schools this summer and make a decision before the season starts, Harley said, adding that Arnett also plans to graduate after the fall semester so that he can enroll in college and participate in spring practice.

As for the one notable exclusion from Arnett's choices, Harley said the player never entertained what again has become a popular destination for local players, Penn State.

From the Maryland site...says his top 5 is Maryland, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Ohio State and Georgia. Says he would like to stay close to home and talks about the Terps. Taking summer classes to get a jump on college and boasts a 3.5 GPA and 1460 SAT.

According to Coach Charles Harley, Forestville junior DeOnte Arnett -- a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end -- is expected to make a verbal commitment on Wednesday.

Rated as high as 11th among the nation's top defensive ends, Arnett has a tremendous wing-span, which helped him to 72 tackles and 15 sacks last fall as well as 18 official offers. He's narrowed that list to five -- Ohio State, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee and Cincinnati. B.J. will have more on Arnett next week as he sits down for a question and answer session in the Recruiting Spotlight.

The guess here is that Arnett gives the local team quite a boost and pledges for the Terps.

Just got off the phone with Forestville Coach Charles Harley, who reports that linebacker DeOnte Arnett has committed to play for Maryland.

Arnett had called coaches from Tennessee, Georgia and Cincinnati in recent days to let them know he had reached a decision then phoned Ohio State today to let the Buckeyes know he had picked Maryland.

"He's in summer school, so he couldn't get out to a lot of places," Harley said. "And he's got two teammates at Maryland and he has some younger siblings he wants to be around."
