According to ESPN affiliate Web site CrimsonConfidential.com, Florida and Tennessee "have the inside track" for Under Armour All-American Frankie Telfort's signature.

He commented on those two programs, "I've seen Florida many times but now they've just put in a new weight room that's ridiculously huge."

"Knoxville is a beautiful town with all the surrounding hills and mountains. And Tennessee has a huge stadium. It seems like close-knit family there."

Other top schools such as Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, USC, Clemson, Stanford, Wisconsin and Florida State are just some of Telfort's 35 or so total scholarship offers.

Telfort May Visit Clemson

LB Frankie Telfort (6-0 205) of Miami, FL says there is a possibility that he could take an unofficial visit to Clemson later this year. Telfort had offers from both USC and Clemson. He says the Tigers are still involved with him but the Gamecocks have backed off. His top six are Southern California, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Florida, Stanford, and Ohio State. He has taken unofficial visits to both Tennessee and Florida and came away impressed with Tennessee. "They have a big campus," he said. "The football stadium is huge and really impressive," Telfort added. He has been to Florida many times and knew what to expect. Telfort wants to study pre-med and go to pharmacy school and says that is important in his decision. So far this season, he has 21 tackles, 8 for loss and a sack, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He has also scored a touchdown on offense. Telfort did not name a leader.

USC's Telfort can't play due to heart condition - College Football Nation - ESPN

ncoming USC freshman Frankie Telfort has been diagnosed with serious genetic heart condition that will prevent him from playing football, the school announced Wednesday.

Telfort was a highly touted linebacker out of Miami.

"This is obviously very difficult news for Frankie, his family and all of us in the football program," USC coach coach Pete Carroll said in a statement. "But we're very thankful doctors discovered the issue before it led to anything worse."

Discovering the problem at this stage most likely saved Telfort's life. According to a release from USC:

Telfort was examined by several of L.A.'s top heart specialists before flying to the Minneapolis Heart Institute last week for a final opinion. Cardiologists determined the 17-year-old had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition that affects 1 in 500 Americans and is the most common cardiovascular cause of sudden death in the world.

USC said it would still honor Telfort's scholarship through 2013.

"Everybody's football career unfortunately ends at some point and no one's ever ready for it," Carroll said in the statement. "For some guys, it comes sooner than expected. But you're a football player and a Trojan for life, and Frankie is definitely both."

Say what you want about Pete Carroll, but he does care about his players. I really hope Frankie makes the best of this unfortunate situation.
