By M. Frank at the ND site. Nixon already holds offers from Georgia Tech, Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, Rutgers, and Florida. He doesn't list any favorites yet, and says that he will be at the AA combine in San Antonio.

Georgia is the latest to offer and Xavier thinks Virginia Tech could be next. No favorites.

Nixon Makes NC State Visit

By Phil Kornblut
OL Xavier Nixon (6-7 270) of Fayetteville, NC is one of the top prospects in the country at his position and has 28 offers at this point. Among the offers are Clemson, USC, LSU, Alabama, North Carolina, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Miami, Florida, NC State, Tennessee and Ohio State. He picked up his LSU offer Wednesday. Wednesday night Nixon went to NC State for the basketball game with North Carolina and while there met up with Wolfpack head coach Tom O'Brien. "I talked to him at halftime," Nixon said. He also attended junior day at North Carolina and plans to attend a junior day at NC State this Sunday. During his spring break Nixon plans to visit Tennessee and Ohio State. As for the Palmetto State schools, Nixon said, "I hear from Clemson a lot, but I don't hear that much from South Carolina." Nixon identified his Clemson recruiter as Chris Rumph but could not name the USC recruiter. Nixon does not have a favorite and has not trimmed his list. He plays mostly at left tackle and said his mean streak is one of his strengths. "If you have someone in front of you, you want to hurt him early and he won't go up against you the rest of the game." Nixon also cited his strength and stamina as plusses and noted that he plays with his pads low.

Jack Britt Busy During Recruiting Season :: WRAL.com

Quote:
Jack Britt football coach Richard Bailey is looking forward to April 20.

Bailey isn’t starting a vacation or taking the day off. But he will be getting a break from constant telephone calls from college football coaches seeking updates on offensive lineman Xavier Nixon.

“On April (20), they can call him direct, and I don’t have to be the go-between,’’ Bailey said. “It’s been crazy. I get one call right after another.

“Florida State called today. Maryland called. Who else? Clemson called. He sat down and called six schools the other day during weight lifting class.

“It’s like that every day. I’m glad I’ve got one of those unlimited cell phone plans.’’

Such is life when you coach one of the nation’s top prospects.

Even though Nixon hasn’t completed his junior year, the 6-foot-6, 275-pounder already owns more than 30 scholarship offers from major-college programs, including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
Quote:
Alabama’s Nick Saban, Charlie Weis from Notre Dame, Clemson’s Tommy Bowden, Tennessee’s Phi Fulmer, Mark Richt from Georgia, Tom O’Brien of N.C. State and North Carolina’s Butch Davis are just a few of the head coaches who have dropped by.

Some of those coaches have also inquired about Jack Britt quarterback Everett Proctor. Proctor was named 2007 Cape Fear region Player of the Year by The Observer after leading the Bucs to a share of the Mid-Southeastern 4-A Conference title.

But while Proctor has an early favorite in Maryland, according to Bailey, Nixon is still sorting through the options.

“With other kids I’ve had here, you could kind of tell who they liked,’’ Bailey said. “With (linebacker) Wesley (Flagg), he liked (North) Carolina. I know if my quarterback gets an offer from Maryland, he’s probably going to commit on the spot.

“But Xavier is not like that. He’s not a fan. He doesn’t wear like an N.C. State shirt around school every day. So I don’t have a clue who he’s really favoring.’’

But Bailey is encouraging Nixon to trim his list in the near future.

“You can’t date 30 women,’’ Bailey said. “It may sound fun, but you can’t keep 30 women on the string. You have to narrow it down at some point.’’

Bailey added that Nixon is already the most heavily recruited player he’s coached at Jack Britt, which is saying something. The Bucs have produced a number of major-college players since the school opened in 2000, including Aaron Kirkland (Tennessee), George Bell (Virginia Tech), Brandon Ghee (Wake Forest), Flagg (UNC) and Alex Frye (Wake Forest).

“The Ohio State coaches told me they aren’t the type to offer 10 offensive linemen and hope that three sign,” Bailey said. “They’re going to offer three and those are the only ones. They’ve told me he’s (Nixon) No. 1 on their board. Florida State told me he’s No. 1 on their board.

Nixon Drawing Recruiters
By Phil Kornblut

OL Xavier Nixon (6-7 270) of Fayetteville, NC has seen coaches from Clemson, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame and Alabama come thru his school thus far, and of course, many more recruiters will be thru before the end of the month. Nixon said Clemson recruiter Chris Rumph came in on Friday. "I talked to him the whole first period," Nixon said. "It's all starting to pick up now with the coaches getting out to visit. The in state schools are recruiting me hard. Miami, Clemson, Michigan and Notre Dame also are recruiting me hard. I'm looking for a place where I can do things academically. If I can make it to the NFL, that would be great. But I need something to fall back on. I'm also looking at how the place fits my style of play. And, do they want me to apply the same things I'm doing now.. And the comfort level is a big factor. I'm waiting on my father to get home from Afghanistan in two weeks before cutting my list to ten." Nixon visited Ohio State, West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Tennessee earlier this spring. Towards the end of this month and plans to visit LSU, Florida, Auburn and Georgia. And he might get by Clemson, too. "Coach Rumph invited me to stop by and he definitely wants me to," Nixon said. "I'm going to talk about it with my family and coach."

OL Xavier Nixon (6-7 270) of Fayetteville, NC plans to trim his long list of offers down to ten or five by the end of next week. Clemson and USC are among Nixon's offers, but he said neither is guaranteed a spot on his final list. "I'm not sure on either one making the cut," Nixon said. But between the two, Clemson appears to have the better chance. "I've been around Clemson a lot more than South Carolina," he said. "They've been around a lot longer. I talked to coach (Brad) Scott about two days ago. He came by the school." Nixon said by Thursday or Friday of next week, he'll know the schools he plans to focus on in the next phase of his decision making process. "I'm looking at where I can get a degree, have early playing time and win a championship," Nixon said. Last weekend he made visits to LSU, Auburn and Florida. He hasn't planned any other visits but he wants to make one to Miami. Nixon has over 40 offers representing most of the top programs in the country.

Jack Britt High School’s Xavier Nixon, who is one of the nation’s top recruiting targets on the offensive line, narrowed his list of college possibilities to nine on Wednesday evening.

In-state universities North Carolina and N.C. State made the cut along with the nationally recognized programs at Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, South Carolina and West Virginia, according to Jack Britt head coach Richard Bailey. Bailey met with Nixon and his parents, Kenneth and Fotini Nixon, for nearly three hours Wednesday to discuss the nearly 40 scholarship offers received by the 6-foot-6, 275-pounder.

“I think he has a great list and he can’t go wrong with any of those schools,’’ Bailey said. “Now he’s going to spend the next three or four months getting to know the coaches at those schools a little more.’’
