Recruiting Notebook: Gators Interested In Plant's Murray
Quote:
When Plant quarterback Aaron Murray arrived at the University of Florida a little after 9 a.m. on Sunday for Junior Day, he was the first one there.
And while Murray, his family and Plant coach Robert Weiner waited in Florida coach Urban Meyer's office for the rest of the underclassmen to arrive, the Florida coaches got some business out of the way before the campus tour began. It was in that setting that the Gators extended a scholarship offer to Murray.
"This is definitely exciting because I've been around Florida for a long time," Murray said. "I've been going to their camps since I was a freshman. It's really, really exciting right now."
The Gators join a long list of colleges, including SEC rivals Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee, to make an offer.

Plant quarterback Aaron Murray plans to narrow his college choices in the next couple of weeks and will have several more schools to consider.
UCLA, Clemson and Texas Tech made scholarship offers this week, joining others such as Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. That brings his scholarship offer total to 29.
Plant coach Robert Weiner said Murray will narrow the choices to a more manageable number, around 10, so Murray can begin scheduling visits and camps.
Murray has said he will announce his decision before the start of the football season. He is scheduled to graduate from Plant in December so he can early enroll in college.

With all due respect to Darrell Jackson, Stephen Garcia and most recently, Matt Patchan, but when all is said and done, Plant quarterback Aaron Murray will go down as the most heavily recruited player in Hillsborough County.
Sound like hyperbole? Just check out the scholarship offers that came in last week: Alabama, LSU, Miami, South Carolina, Notre Dame. Those colleges join a list that already includes Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee. One day last week, Murray chatted on the phone with Alabama coach Nick Saban, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier and Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis. As Panthers coach Robert Weiner said “that’s not a bad day.”
As of Monday morning, Murray has totaled 43 scholarship offers. By the time he makes his decision, that total could double. Murray is expected to narrow his choices this spring and will make a formal announcement this summer before the start of his senior season.
Here’s a complete list of Murray’s offers: Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Army, Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia, Harvard, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Purdue, South Carolina, Southern Methodist, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UCF, UCLA, USF, UNLV, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Plant’s Aaron Murray received two more offers to add to his rather long list.
Oregon and Central Michigan are the latest to offer scholarships to the junior quarterback. Murray also received a rather unique invitation.
The Tampa Bay Bucs called Murray and asked him to participate in an invitation-only quarterback camp at One Buc Place on Saturday. Coach Jon Gruden, former Bucs quarterback Doug Williams and Bucs quartebacks coach Greg Olsen will conduct the camp.
Plant coach Robert Weiner said he isn’t sure if Murray will participate because of an already busy schedule. Murray, along with his Plant teammates Orson Charles, who received an offer from the national champion LSU Tigers on Tuesday, and Hunter Baldwin, will play in a national 7-on-7 tournament at USF on Sunday. The team will include other local players as well as players from state champion Miami Northwestern. Weiner will coach the offense and the Northwestern coach will handle the defense.

Aaron Murray
The state of FLA actually had two top-tier QBs in attendance and many who were there were especially eager to see Aaron Murray perform. All he did was lead his team to the championship. Murray had one player in attendance, highly-rated TE Orson Charles, but Charles is a transfer so there was no history. Nevertheless, Murray showed that he will have absolutely no problem adjusting to new personnel at the college level.

The All-American kid will play in an All-American Bowl.
Plant quarterback Aaron Murray has received a lot of offers, but one of the most prestigious ones came on Monday. Murray accepted an invitation to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Hillsborough County’s leading passer is one of the first national invites for the event.
“It’s a great tradition because you get to see so many stars,” Murray said.
A selection committee made up of several recruiting experts interview more than 4,000 potential Bowl participants before officially nominating 400 of the top seniors in the nation. From that list, 84 are selected to play in the annual game, which is nationally televised.
A high-ranking Army official will be a part of a formal ceremony at the school in the coming months.
Former Armwood offensive lineman Matt Patchan was selected last year, but was unable to play in the game. Former quarterbacks who have participated include Florida’s Tim Tebow and Terrelle Pryor.
Murray just wrapped up a busy weekend. On Saturday, he participated in the quarterbacks clinic with Tampa Bay Bucs coach Jon Gruden and former Bucs quarterback Doug Williams. On Sunday, Murray helped lead a team comprised of Panthers teammates Orson Charles and Hunter Baldwin, Chamberlain’s Anthony Williams and players from Pahokee, Lake Region, Titusville and King’s Academy to victory at a 7-on-7 tournament at USF.
“Football’s always fun for me,” Murray said of his busy schedule. “We make sure things don’t get too hectic. I want to enjoy this process.”
In the coming months, Murray is expected to narrow his more than 50 Division I offers to about 10. He will announce his college decision before the start of his senior season. Murray is also on schedule to graduate from Plant in December so he can early enroll in college in January.

When Plant quarterback Aaron Murray narrows down his choices from a rather lengthy list, he’ll have visited many of the potential college campuses before doing so.
Having already taken unofficial visits to Florida and Georgia, Murray is at UCLA this week. The junior quarterback, who was recently selected to play in the prestigious Army All-American Bowl, left Tampa earlier Wednesday to meet with the Bruins and will return on Friday, Panthers coach Robert Weiner said.
With more than 50 Division I offers, Murray plans to narrow the list down to more manageable 10 this spring. He’ll announce his decision before the start of his senior season.

Murray is scheduled to leave for Athens today with his father after returning from a trip to UCLA. He will join Panthers coach Robert Weiner and teammates Orson Charles and Allen Sampson.
The group will take in the Bulldogs annual spring game. Murray and Charles have already taken unofficial visits to the Georgia campus.

If you believed everything you read on the Internet, Plant quarterback Aaron Murray was supposed to make a big announcement this weekend.
While attending Saturday’s Orange and Blue spring game at the University of Florida on Saturday, rumors had Murray declaring his intentions to play for the Gators, on national TV no less. Didn’t happen. Wasn’t going to happen.
Despite what was written on a message board, Murray never intended to make any kind of announcement. He was there, like the nearly 60,000 others in attendance, to enjoy a football game.
Murray stayed in Gainesville for Sunday’s Nike training camp where he was named Most Valuable Quarterback, beating out Miramar’s Eugene Smith, who won the honor at a recent Nike camp in Miami.
Murray’s Plant teammates Orson Charles and Austin Clark joined him at the camp. Other locals who opened some eyes included Wesley Chapel Kamran Joyer and St. Pete Catholic’s Jon Halapio, who took home top lineman honors.

Elite quarterback Aaron Murray names three leaders
Aaron Murray, an ESPN 150 Watch List talent, recently said, "The leaders right now are UCLA, Florida and Georgia, but it's not necessarily down to those three schools. There were different things that I liked about all three visits and I talked to my parents about that for a little bit. They are all great programs and great schools."
However, he continued, "I'm not going to narrow anything down just yet. I just want to make sure I'm 100-percent positive about where I want to go. If I don't make a decision before the summer, I'm going to visit a couple more places too."

Glory Glory Georgia

The black pinstriped suit of Plant quarterback Aaron Murray may have told it all.
Or possibly the black tie.
Or maybe even the black dress shirts--albeit unplanned--worn by his older brother, Josh, and younger sister, Stephanie.
But when Murray simultaneously donned a black baseball hat with the Georgia signature "G" and announced that he would take his game to Athens, the decision was clear.
"I just felt it in my gut that (Georgia) was the place to be," said Murray, who had narrowed down his choices between Georgia and Florida. "Coach (Mark) Richt, the entire coaching staff, the campus, the facilities, the stadium, the school. Everything played a part in my decision and I couldn't be happier.".....

ESPN - Plant, Armwood gearing up for season-opening showdown - Insider
Quote:
TAMPA, Fla. -- Aaron Murray has a long memory.
He recalls the pressure from the edge, defenders flying by and realizing there must be an easier way.
Murray, one of the nation's top quarterback prospects from Plant High School, endured a large dose of pressure in two games last season against Armwood High School (Seffner, Fla.) -- most notably from defensive end Ryne Giddins.
"I think he sacked me, like, nine times in those games; he was coming from everywhere and we didn't have an answer," said Murray, who established a Florida single-season record with 51 touchdown passes as a junior.
