LaDarius Perkins, a defensive back and running back from Mississippi, became Auburn's 12th football commitment Sunday when he cast his lot with the Tigers, according to AuburnSports.com and Inside the Auburn Tigers.

Most schools recruited Perkins, who is 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, as a cornerback, though he rushed for about 2,000 yards and 29 touchdowns last season at St. Joseph High School in Greenville. Perkins told AuburnSports.com the Tigers talked to him about playing running back and/or slot receiver.

Rivals said Perkins received offers from Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe and Southern Miss, but LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss were involved. Duke, Stanford and Tennessee also had shown an interest.

From the Auburn site. Though he has been committed to Auburn for some time, Perkins has started looking at Mississippi State hard, and will visit this weekend. He will visit Auburn the following weekend, and then decide between those two.
